Make the username message less scary
I don't really remember what I thought when I first saw the message. I might have been a little confused and probably wondered “what ‘identity’?”, howeverSupportI kinda freaked out when I saw it for the first time too. SUPPORT THIS!
The first time I saw that message, I logged out as fast as I could.
But that was 2 years ago, I don't know for sure- Botcho_Otkho

Removing The Message For Signed Out Users Is A Good Idea, Signed Out Users Might Be Like, “What? Am I Signed In? I Thought I Was Signed Out.”

+1! Saying someone can see your identity is scary, especially online. It should be changed to something along the lines of this: “You are viewing a project that uses the username block, your username could potentially be stored in a cloud variable. If you don't want that to happen sign out and play the project.”

A better message would be: This project contains the ‘username’ block and knows the username of any person who uses it. If you do not want this, please log out before using this project.

They could probably change it to something like…“This project uses the username block and it can sense your username.”
(And if cloud variables are involved): “This project uses the username block, and has the potential to store your username.”

I was showing someone my project on their computer, someone who's not really tech-savvy, and when he saw the username message (I.e. This project contains the username block…) they got a little nervous. Why does the message say “protect your identity”? The person viewing the project thought that somehow his personal information was going to be taken by viewing the project. How on earth can the username block steal your identity? It's an exaggerated message and scares away visitors to the site.
Plus the message should not appear in the first place if you are logged off.
1. I dunno a single person who is scared by the message.
2. Its not even possible to use the username block as a security camera to see what you look like and stuff.
3. If it WAS possible, pretty much only @griffpatch could do it.

1. Maybe You Don't Know Any People Who Are Scared By The Message, But That Doesn't Mean There Aren't People Who Are Scared By It.I was showing someone my project on their computer, someone who's not really tech-savvy, and when he saw the username message (I.e. Not Just As Scary, But Still Kinda Scary.I was showing someone my project on their computer, someone who's not really tech-savvy, and when he saw the username message (I.e. Support. I actually once saw somebody in the comments of one of my projects warning everybody that this project will steal their personal information. Upon asking them, I realized that they were simply concerned by that message. In that project, I used the username block to check if it was me using the project so that I could test it, because I was way too lazy to actually play the game that many times.
I think the message should, first of all, not appear for logged off users.
Maybe it would be less scary if it saidThis project uses the “username” block, meaning it can use your username. Please sign out if you do not want the project to know your username. Or I don't know, that may be just as scary….

Full support!
I nearly quit Scratcharia when I saw that. At first I even thought something terrible was going to happen, like my name would appear up on a board and start shaking and then all my personal information would be leaked.
Then,
“Oh, it just says ‘username’.”
See?
EDIT: Oh, and it put my off using the not-so-scary

That's a good idea! When I was new to Scratch, and didn't understand the username project, I would close Scratch as fast as I could just in case they could get information from me just from being on the project XD

All you need is a reason why you support. It doesn't matter if it's already been said.Yeah, you do – else it's reportable spam. This isn't a voting poll, it's a discussion thread.Where's your response then? I couldn't find any other response from you unless I missed it lol. At least saying support is better than not contributing to this suggestion at all
And fine, report me, I'm sorry that I can't think of something new that 12 pages worth of people hasn't said already lol. At some point you'll eventually run out of new things to say.
Anyways, you can continue this argument on either one of our profiles if you'd like.
Back on topic, I do support this. I do agree that it is quite a bit suggestive first time seeing it.

Okay, thanks for the all the feedback, folks! There are some good suggestions for a replacement message.
I'm going to close this now as it seems like most of the discussion is off-topic and has to be removed.
For future topics, please don't let the conversation devolve into an argument about whether it is okay to just say “support” or “no support” - just use the report button and let the moderator deal with it. Thanks!
