Converting your idea into a great project! - A guide

One of the biggested challenges for creating scratch projects is thinking of an idea for a project that users of the website would be interested in playing.

So in this post, I will go over some ways that could help you convert your simple idea into a great project!

Tip 1 - Figuring out what code you need
Most of the time when making a project, you have to stop and think about code and test that code out. Take time to think about the code you need and don't rush straight into a project. If you need to, get help from another scratcher, remember the main part of Scratch is the community within it! You could also post on the Help With Scripts Forum.

Tip 2 - Implementing that code
When you have figured out what code you will need, you then need to put it into your project. Think now about the sprites and your backdrops, I will list some information on designing them in the next tip. Before moving to the next sprite, test the one you have just made and make sure it works well with the rest of the project.

Tip 3 - Thinking about your design
Design is also a very important element of your project, the better the design is the more people will enjoy the game because it looks better and feels more premium. First, you have to choose what you will be designing in, Vector or Bitmap. I usually choose Vector as it looks better regarding quality in the end. There is a vector tutorial here. Pixel art can also be used depending on the game category, Bitmap is best for pixel art. You can also use external software.

Tip 4 - Getting your project noticed
Finally after all that hard work your project is ready to be shared, but since you put in all that hard work, your project definitely deserves some views. Remember that scratch isn't all about the popularity and is more about the fun and learning! Posting your projects in Studios that are quite popular can help get your project noticed, just make sure you are putting your projects into the right studios and reading the studio rules! Advertising your projects on the show and tell forum and putting them on your personal website if you have one can help lots too!

I hope this guide has helped some scratchers out there and I am happy to answer any questions below or add more suggested tips!

Good guide. Converting ideas into Scratch can be really hard. I usually just close my eyes and hunk about the code and what it would do.

I'll start applying glue, but it needs a few fixes
-“Scrips” should be “Scripts”
-“Studio that are quite popular” should be “Studios that are quite popular”
-“your are” should be “you are”

In the meantime, you're a step closer to a sticky!

I would suggest it to be stickied, but I don't know how.
