In the Pokemon anime, there have been numerous times where a Pokemon was about to be attacked after fainting. What do you think could have occurred if that actually did happen? Well, the anime shows that death is definitely possible for Pokemon, so think that they die. Pikachu did get seriously damaged when trying to attack raichu after being defeated in one of the first episodes. Also, Ash stopped another trainer's greninja from attacking his froakie after it had already fainted. So I think they die, but what do you think?

I'm pretty sure it would depend on how strong the opponent's attack is.
