Character idea
Doctor Plague
So Doctor Plague has been a doodle in my notebooks for the past year, literally just a plague doctor in a tiny top hat. A plague doctor. But like a few weeks ago, I was lying awake, and I got this weird picture (I hesitate to say vision cuz that makes it sound all SpOoKy and important-like) of a dude that was kinda disturbing. It was like, his skin was varying shades of green, yellow, and red, and he had sharp yellow teeth and a long hooked nose and eyes that looked like those of dead fish, without pupils. He was tall and lanky and like, his skin was basically just rotted all over the place, looked kinda like the second half of Two-Face or like Freddie Crueger a bit. And I'm just like ey, that's Doctor Plague.
So now i have this sadistic, creepy, disturbing character that is like a reverse plague doctor (he gives diseases not cures them), but I have nowhere to put him…
I guess I could make him a character in Wonder, like that'd be interesting, but then you don't get his tall lanky aspect or sadistic aspect… idk, where do yalls think I should put him?

The Lovecraft Equation
Or The Lovecraft Enigma
Or something like that, with Lovecraft n whatnot
So this is based kinda on one of my dreams, where Lovecraft convinced us to summon Cthulhu in Chicago, where two other Cthulhus (even tho technically I believe there is only one Cthulhu) we're already summoned.
So basically, the whole point is, it plays on the question “what if Lovecraft was right?” (Basically Neonomicon, but less… certain… actions… and more eldritch horrors.
So it's about this kid (takes place present-day btw), who's a huge nerd (betcha can't guess who dat might beeee) and loves Lovecraft n Dr. Who and all that jazz. He's watching TV, the news n stuff, and there's a story about how astronomers have discovered a ninth planet (btw again, this is based off of what I was thinking when I read that online) (also there is actually a ninth planet, way outside Neptune's orbit. On a scale model with the sun being a kickball, it was 18 miles away from the kickball). He's like “huh, what if that's Yuggoth” (Yuggoth is the name for Pluto in Lovecraft's stuff, back when it was number nine). But he doesn't think much further than that.
(That part will likely be a prologue in the form of like, a discription of what's happening on the tv rather than the kid's perspective, or something, idk)
It switches to an astronomer who's at one of the SETI (Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence) stations. They're getting weird readings coming from this newfound planet; like real weird stuff (a video of Hitler st the Olympican, perhaps) (cuz that she what the Vegans (wow.. uh… hm. Let's say people from Vega rather than Vegan lol) in Contact used, and Comtact's a cool movie). He's like “huh, that's weird” n whatnot.
It then switches to a soldier in New England patrolling the coastline near a military installation. A small black boat is rowing to shore, but the people are in robes. He yells, shoots at the water, etc, but they don't stop. Finally he shoots at them; nothing happens. He's like real confused now.
And then the cloaks fly off and the people are gone. He's spooked, but goes back to patrolling.
And then the creatures drop down on him.
Spooky.
Then it goes to a fisherman in the Pacific. He's doing his thing, when the boat starts shaking. He's in the middle of the ocean, why the heck is his boat shaking? And right out from under him, an entire island is upheaved from the ocean. An island with “otherworldly geometries” and “Cyclopean architecture”. (And if this was a movie, the side of the boat would say “Vigilance” (that she the name of the boat that finds Cthulhu). He and his m8s cautiously walk onto the island, bewildered. There's a huge spire in the middle, built like a temple.
And out from its doors comes Cthulhu.
And they freak out.
So then it goes to the kid in a small town in Nevada. His dad works for the government, but nobody knows what he does. Yknow how it is. So he's called in several times saying he had to stay at work n stuff and the kids bummed n whatnot, but doesn't really worry. His dad's a such-and-such, can't be that bad. So yeah, life goes on.
Then in the middle of the night, someone's knocking on his window. He looks out, and it's his friend. A couple of their other friends are standing behind him, looking bored.
The kid sneaks out and goes outside and the friend's like “m8 come check this out!” And they go, and like, they find a thing in the woods, or maybe go to the place his dad works and sneak across the fence, something. Point bein tho, they find somethin.
And um.. that's all I can think of right now. But basically, the plot is like, Cthulhu goes to the West Coast, while things get dicey on the East with the Elder Ones (I think that's what the flying fungus crab people are called idk), and then Yig shows up in Nevada, and Shub-Niggurath comes in somewhere, and a mummy breaks out of a museum (that would be Nyarlathotep) and like everything's nuts, and stuff happens. Then something happens and suddenly! Azathoth joins the party. He's floatin in space, doing his outer-dimension universe-crushing Elder God thing, and idk, the world teams up with Yig and the crew (Cthulhu and the Crew… I may just use that somewhere lol…) to go to Yuggoth, where the Yugs I guess idk have built a device to kill Azathoth (or lock him away cuz he can't actually be killed?), and they need stuff to use it. And idk, the Shoggoths come in somewhere, and the Old Ones, and all that jazz.
Idk, I just thought it was an interesting concept.

I think maybe like a “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” kind-of-a character…. I'd say, Victorian era? It sounds like a great writing prompt. Maybe he's a mysterious doctor, just arrived from……. idk, why not Prussia? He arrives in England, right? And… oh! And no-one knows what his profession is, only that he's some kind of doctor, and (mix in some Sweeney Todd), whoever goes to him, with sickness or what have you, they just *snaps fingers* Character ideadisappear?

I'd say the early thirteen hundreds to late fifteen hundreds. Because, y'know the Black Death. Then you'd have to change his costume to have the crow looking mask, but that's not a big deal.Ooh… interesting…I think maybe like a “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” kind-of-a character…. Or you could make him a time lord and he travels time and space with the goal of spreading disease. Dunno. It's a little far-fetched.
wait–maybe he is disease, like, he can only survive because of it, so he trys to destroy vaccines and stuff, and spread diseases so that he can continue to be.

That sounds even better! Maybe a portion of the disease evolved! It, like, possessed the first human it came across, and that person was a doctor! So now the plague has an extensive knowledge of medicines and vaccines, and knows what will kill him, and what will make him stronger, and he knows where he can destroy what, when, and how! So he calls himself “Dr. Plague,” as a kind of a joke, or a pun of sorts, since he is a plague, and his host is (or was) a doctorI'd say the early thirteen hundreds to late fifteen hundreds. Because, y'know the Black Death. Then you'd have to change his costume to have the crow looking mask, but that's not a big deal.Ooh… interesting…I think maybe like a “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” kind-of-a character….
Maybe Dr. Plague is like, a nickname or something… hm… I should really write a story for him that'd be pretty coo
Or you could make him a time lord and he travels time and space with the goal of spreading disease. Dunno. It's a little far-fetched.
wait–maybe he is disease, like, he can only survive because of it, so he trys to destroy vaccines and stuff, and spread diseases so that he can continue to be.

and that sounds a lot like IX-9 (i know i was told not to reference Allergreen, but legit it sounds like IX-9. IX-9 is a disease that takes whatever DNA it finds and replaces random bits with its own, and then grows whatever comes out of it, and then keeps on splicing it over and over as the cells grow in tandem with the disease, until finally youre left with something… horrifying. it takes hundreds of years, but once the abomination can survive, it SURVIVES. but not much else around it does generally). but like, thats a terrifying thought… him being the disease… i kinda considered that, but i like your version of it a lot better.

ooh, lemme recast that. what if he WASNT always like that, but as he grew, the disease took more and more of him. but, what if, since it is a somewhat intelligent disease, or perhaps cuz it is just really advanced, it never killed him, only influenced him (theres plenty of fungi out there capable of doing this. theres worms, too. heck, Influenza does that even (no joke, influenza is a legit zombie virus. it changes your chemistry ever so slightly so that you are just a bit more social. kinda crafty if you think about it)). influenced him to, idk, pursue a medical career.

also yknow what? its more fun to have it not be plausible. why not have it be an intelligent disease? like thats an interesting concept. what if each cell was a piece of the whole? like an organism?
like, if youve seen Avatar, the planet Pandora. every tree is part of a huge neural network; on their own, they arent much; but all together, they are a massive network of intelligence. in other words, the Internet. a giant conglomeration of everything anyone has ever learned and witness (or a very very very very large percentage of it).
what if the disease was like that? each cell on its own is a potential to make a new hive mind, but as a group, they are an incredibly intelligent creature.
ooh and theres a thought… what if part of the plot is that like, say, his finger is cut off by someone stuck in his… idk, hospital? doctor's office? his workplace. so its no big deal, the disease can regen that. …but so can the finger. and ever cell contains the same DNA, it just requires certain environmental features to mold the DNA to have some parts activated and some not. the disease, being intelligent, and essentially part of him, knows how to handle this.
it also has part of the network still in it. soon there is not one, but two Doctor Plagues. only, one is the “real” one, and the other is a highly unstable mostly-clone of him.

Oh god. And when the intelligent disease infects somebody, it claims their mind, but it doesn't destroy it. So unlike in zombie movies, where an infected person becomes brainless and animal-like, they're still smart, just are controlled by this network of disease.
IX-9 is a disease that takes whatever DNA it finds and replaces random bits with its own, and then grows whatever comes out of it, and then keeps on splicing it over and over as the cells grow in tandem with the disease, until finally youre left with something… horrifying. it takes hundreds of years, but once the abomination can survive, it SURVIVES. but not much else around it does generally). but like, thats a terrifying thought… him being the disease… i kinda considered that, but i like your version of it a lot better.
or… what if… idk how thisd work, but what if hes like… ok this is venturing into the complete bizarre and horrifying, but what if he was always like that? like, the disease grew with him.
ooh, lemme recast that. what if he WASNT always like that, but as he grew, the disease took more and more of him. but, what if, since it is a somewhat intelligent disease, or perhaps cuz it is just really advanced, it never killed him, only influenced him (theres plenty of fungi out there capable of doing this. theres worms, too. heck, Influenza does that even (no joke, influenza is a legit zombie virus. it changes your chemistry ever so slightly so that you are just a bit more social. kinda crafty if you think about it)). influenced him to, idk, pursue a medical career.
idk, trying to keep this as plausible as possible while still being horrifying. DP is simply one of those characters who exists to be a horrifying thing. lol
but uh… hm…
idk, i really like your guys's ideas tho. ill think on this some more i think
this is plausible in like a sci-fi universe or something
wait if you're putting him in a story… is he the main character or the villain?
also yknow what? its more fun to have it not be plausible. why not have it be an intelligent disease? like thats an interesting concept. what if each cell was a piece of the whole? like an organism?
like, if youve seen Avatar, the planet Pandora. every tree is part of a huge neural network; on their own, they arent much; but all together, they are a massive network of intelligence. in other words, the Internet. a giant conglomeration of everything anyone has ever learned and witness (or a very very very very large percentage of it).
what if the disease was like that? each cell on its own is a potential to make a new hive mind, but as a group, they are an incredibly intelligent creature.
ooh and theres a thought… what if part of the plot is that like, say, his finger is cut off by someone stuck in his… idk, hospital? doctor's office? his workplace. so its no big deal, the disease can regen that.
0_0 ok that is actually a terrifying thought
And y'know what?
How different is that from our internet?
(oh gosh I just spooked myself)
but yeah, it really is a spooky thought. not like, SpOoKy spooky, like LEGIT spooky. bc its kinda true, to an extent. theres a difference between herd and hive mind. a hive mind is like a sheet of metal: all are part of the whole, they move and flow as a whole. herd mind is like a sheet of buckyballs (thats the legit term for a ball of metal. its also what this thing thats like a bunch of magnetic metal balls): the individuals move as a whole, they react to the rest, but they are still nonetheless individuals. they are highly influenced by the combined power of the herd, but they can still function on their own, just not as well.

IX-9 is a disease that takes whatever DNA it finds and replaces random bits with its own, and then grows whatever comes out of it, and then keeps on splicing it over and over as the cells grow in tandem with the disease, until finally youre left with something… horrifying. it takes hundreds of years, but once the abomination can survive, it SURVIVES. but not much else around it does generally). but like, thats a terrifying thought… him being the disease… i kinda considered that, but i like your version of it a lot better.
or… what if… idk how thisd work, but what if hes like… ok this is venturing into the complete bizarre and horrifying, but what if he was always like that? like, the disease grew with him.
ooh, lemme recast that. what if he WASNT always like that, but as he grew, the disease took more and more of him. but, what if, since it is a somewhat intelligent disease, or perhaps cuz it is just really advanced, it never killed him, only influenced him (theres plenty of fungi out there capable of doing this. theres worms, too. heck, Influenza does that even (no joke, influenza is a legit zombie virus. it changes your chemistry ever so slightly so that you are just a bit more social. kinda crafty if you think about it)). influenced him to, idk, pursue a medical career.
idk, trying to keep this as plausible as possible while still being horrifying. DP is simply one of those characters who exists to be a horrifying thing. lol
but uh… hm…
idk, i really like your guys's ideas tho. ill think on this some more i think

I like to think of rules as suggestions, Panda. But, point taken.i thought it was agreed that we wouldn't talk about this. but cool and freakySupposing that he on purposly possessed a doctor, maybe he tried to… idk, infiltrate? a medical college of sorts, or wherever you go to try to get a doctor degree, by murder??? Think about it. Getting information out of his patients, then killing them, to keep them silent. Hmm?yeah, he started as a doodle of the crow mask until one night while trying to get to sleep his actual face popped into my head, and im just like “oh, hello Dr. Plague. so THATS what you look like”Yes! But what if the plague purposly possessed a doctor, knowing it could strengthen its power, and now it's trying to posess another doctor, as this one's knowlege is getting outdated.
