So, I was trying to post a comment on a project I liked. I typed "I love this! It reminds me of Le Worm https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/118824744/ . -Squid“. I tried to post it on the project but the ”Bad Word Detector“ showed up saying it detected something in my comment. This was confusing because I only said that I love the project, said it reminds me of another project I like, typed in the link for that project so other people could see the similarity, and then signed my name (I share a colab account with my best friend so we sign our names so we can tell who said what. I'm Squid, he is Octopus.). My potential comment was very positive and supportive, ”respectful“, and had nothing resembling a bad word. I wasn't advertising myself either, the link wasn't to my project. Even after editing and rephrasing it still insists I'm not being ”respectful". I just can't see the problem. Can someone tell me what I did wrong?! -Squid

It could be that the number at the end is too big and that soon we won't be able to link new projects due to the phone number filter.

Try in the comments - this is discussing the comment and description filters, as the forums filter is much more lax.

It's triggered by
18824744/ . -
it seems to be more complex than just matching one string here, based on what happens when I remove characters from it - the actual trigger seems to be a number, then any number of characters, and then the dash. 1882 would look look like the obvious suspect, but posting it on its own is actually unfiltered.

ST, please stop filtering 18xx and other short strings of numbers. They cause way too many false positives and stop people from posting links or even dates, and that is going to get worse when projects reach the 180000000s and 2018 comes around.

I have had the phone number filter replace numbers with “XXXXXXX..”. While I do get that this is to prevent phone numbers from being shared it is rather annoying because most of the time it's not even a phone number and it's just a link..

Btw, yes. This is supposed to be banned (it stands for “kill yourself”) and it's a very bad thing to say (as Paddle has said) and it's more than that, it's technically illegal. So yes. It's supposed to be forbidden..

I just wanted to type abbreviations like: Idk (I don't know)Btw (by the way) and dunno (don't know) or something like that, it says there's a bad word. But when I re-typed it it worked, idk what's wrong. I feel like the bad word detector should be updated a little as new abbreviations come along.

Also when I enter long numbers like “11111111111” (It's part of a scratchers username) , the number just becomes “xxxxxxxxxxx”, think doing so is too prevent password sharing but then I can't really include that scratcher username in a comment…

That's the phone number blocker portion of the filter. Unfortunately, we don't have very much control over that

If you want to enter the exact sentence you were trying to post, you should be able to do it here. Then, I could take a look at the filter and see what is triggering it - perhaps even fix it.

Okay, I'm having a weird problem. I was making edits in a roleplay studio, and the bad word detector said I had bad words but I didn't. The words I was typing out were ( @Kat_Head_37 ) and Ashlynn Falls, both resulting in numerous alerts.

There's a racial slur in there. Don't you mean “he snickered”?
“sniggered” is British, and presumably other Commonwealth countries as well.
Sorry about this, but if the filter removed the “s” and the “ed” it would be a bad word and the filter would probably go off twice

Also, don't worry about us getting to the link numbers getting to 10000000. But in a few years, worry about that.

Hmmm. Neither of those words trigger the filter by themselves. Probably they are interacting with something else in your text. Can you post all of the text from the field that you are trying to save? Or give me a link to the studio?

If it's the studio description field, try saving the field without making any real changes (just type in a space) and see if there is something already there that the filter objects to.

I know, but you could say the same about lots of other inoffensive words with offensive ones inside them. Besides, the ST has already dealt with that one.

Can you change the title from “Report Filter Issues Here” to “Report Bad Word Detector Issues Here,” as users may not understand what the “filter” is, and may therefore not post the problems here, but in another thread.

Please remove “goo.gl” links from the filter - while I know this measure prevents link trolling, goo.gl and bit.ly track how many users visit our site. It's pretty useful. You should just add a link inspector tool for goo.gl and bit.ly, so that people don't get Rickroll'D and lead to inappropriate sites.
