Just Cause 2

Just Cause 2
Genre: action-adventure game, free roam
Rating: M for blood, mild language, and suggestive stuff (but that's really minor).
Setting: Panau, Southeast Asia (fictional, 400 square miles), present.
Protagonist: Rico Rodriguez, expert stunt driver/marksman
Antagonists:
  • Pandak “Baby” Panay, the evil dictator who is starving his people and strengthening his military.
  • Tom Sheldon, the former mentor of Rico who is allegedly corrupt.
Weapons:
  • Grappling hook, used for attaching to vehicles, pulling objects and enemies, and scaling buildings
  • plenty of guns/rifles/pistols
Transportation:
  • Endless supply of parachutes, Rico's main mode for transportation used with grappling hook to provide a quick getaway
  • Over 100 vehicles, including rickshaws, sports cars, boats, jumbo jets, helicopters, motorbikes, and tanks.
Factions:
  • The Agency, Rico's team hired to eliminate Panay.
  • Panau Military, suppressing Panau citizens and hostile to Rico. Military strength fortifies the longer a fight with them lasts.
  • Roaches, Reapers, Ular Boys are the gangs of Panau, each set out to control a region that is “rightfully theirs”. Roaches control the cities, Reapers control the seas, and Ular Boys control the forests.
Earnings:
  • Cash is earned by completing missions, destroying objects, and collecting parts. You use it to purchase vehicles and weapons from the Black Market.
  • Vehicle, Weapon, and Armor parts, are scattered throughout the Panau region. They provide points to upgrade weapons and vehicles, or increase health.
  • Faction items are scattered specifically throughout Panau. The Roaches' Drug Drops are mainly found in civilized areas, the Reapers' Black Boxes are found in the waters surrounding Panau, and the Ular Boys' Skulls are found in the jungle regions. Collecting them expand faction territory.
  • Chaos is earned the same way as cash, and can unlock missions, stronghold takeovers, black market items, and expand faction influence.
Locations:
  • Villages, the most abundant place to find. They are the homelands of the Panau people, who are poor and underdeveloped.
  • Military bases, which include harbors, airports, barracks, communication outposts, and strongholds. They are guarded by a number of soldiers, carrying deadly force weapons and attack Rico on sight. Most destructible objects in the game are found at these places.
  • Oil rigs, found offshore and are heavily guarded with patrol boats, snipers, and SAMs, and hold several fuel depots underneath. Approach with caution.
  • Faction Headquarters are where the heads of the gangs reside.
Phew, this took a while…

Discuss your thoughts, what you enjoyed/didn't enjoy, mods, best parts (put up spoiler alerts), and of course…

…the glitches.

This game is never-ending fun. From the moment you learn to use the grappling hook, there's no limit to what you can do with it. Try these hilarious scenarios:
-Attach the grappling hook to an enemy and a nearby fuel canister. Shoot the canister, which will send it flying. The enemy will be pulled along by the canister, which will explode after a few seconds, and the enemy will fall/die/????.
-Grapple a person to a speeding car. Lulz
-Bring a car to an airport. Attach the grappling hook to the car and an approaching plane. Drive next to the plane until it begins to ignite its engines. Your car will fly.
-Get on the long highway that goes through the Panau city region. Find a fast sports car (Chevalier 999 or Mancini Cavallo) and drive fast. Run over as many civilians on bikes as you can before crashing.

No, I typed it. I was thinking of pasting the description from Wikipedia, but it was too long.

It was more that it seems to just be a synopsis of what JC2 is rather than anything about your experiences with it.

Personally I find it annoying how quickly my health gets depleted in the game even with masses of upgrades to the stat.

I would write my thoughts on it, but I'm just giving a summary of it for those who don't know.

It's frustrating to know that your health can be reduced so easily and yet so little health is added with each upgrade… and in the end, you have about double your original health.

I find the toughest part of the game is escaping fast enough from the helicopters. Everytime I want to escape death by parachute, I collide into a tree, and slowly descend to the ground while the 10 or so soldiers pursuing me fire away.

Ah, yes. I absolutely love this game! A friend gave it to me on Steam, and since then, I've added a ton of mods and done a ton of things!

I enjoy the fact that you can do pretty much anything. I have a Silverbolt mod, and I spend most of my time going at insane speeds launching rockets at other planes. I haven't beaten the story yet, but flying is so much more fun!

It often comes up in Steam sales for a few quid. It's often less than £3!

It can be fun, but I feel like the lag problems and poor compensation for ping really ruins it. Fighting other players is somewhat frustrating when it mostly comes down to spraying in their direction and hoping ping/luck favors you.

As for the game itself, I find it tons of fun. It's true that you can run out of health pretty quickly, but with the variety of movement options available to you, I think you can avoid it pretty well. The main problem comes when the police forces start coming in masses and you're forced to run or be moved down by half a dozen helicopters.

I was mostly commenting on the chaos of it rather than on how fun it is. I agree that it isn't that great, especially when compared to potential expectations.
