It's a common problem. Although I don't know why it happens, the workaround is to convert it .wav, then import it.

Video2MP3 isn't compatible to convert youtube videos to wav.

I always put the MP3. music on Scratch 1.4, then I upload it to scratch.mit.edu. After that I right click on the music when it is on the website, and press save. It will convert it to a wav. file, and you can load that new downloaded copy to the project on the website. I hope you can understand that……

Use Audacity. It's free to download.

Assuming you download it from a legitimate source, Audacity is a safe program to use (I use it myself).

But you might want to check if your computer already has a software capable of conversion. Most do, it's usually built in the “Save As” mechanism in most music player programs.

iTunes can convert music. The Scratch Wiki explains how to do it here.

Is it true if you import mp3 files to scratch 1.4 and exporting them as WAV on scratch 2.0 website?

Install Scratch 1.4, import a MP3 file, when done uploading, export the file, and WOOOO!! Your file is ready to be uploaded to Scratch 2.0, a Wave file!
