Restoring deleted projects

Situation: I decide to empty my “Trash” folder. Only after I do so, I realize it included a project I actually wanted to keep, but deleted accidentally. Well, too bad. Even if I spent hours on it, it's gone, right?

What if you could restore it? Within 48 hours of emptying your Trash, you could click a Restore button, and the deleted projects would reappear in your trash. Again, you'd have to do this within 48 hours of deleting them. They'd still be in your Trash folder, but this would give you the opportunity to reshare projects you didn't mean to delete/want to redo/whatever. This would solve lots of problems. I distinctly recall deleting a project I spent nine hours on, completely by accident

Why would you put a project you wanted to keep in the Trash in the first place? To be honest, you'd probably only put it there if you didn't like it, so deleting it wouldn't really be much of a hassle… I would've thought that the original “putting in the trash” could be considered the first deletion, and “put back” could be restoring it. “Empty Trash” would be the permanent deletion. No?

Well, the (Put Back) button is the restore button I thought, and I don't think they need another one? Also, you should always check before emptying the trash, or never even empty the trash (My trash is full of junk) - you may never know… (if you need it again)

I don't usually clear my trash for that reason, but I'm sure you're not the only person who has had that happen to them. So support on that

Accident fam, lol. Once I deleted a project from like 6 months ago, but I forgot it was in the trash when I emptied it.

In Outlook (for email), there is an option to delete e-mails, which moves it to the “Deleted” folder, and then you can delete it again, which removes it from sight.

Then there is an option called “Recover deleted items” in which you can either restore emails that you have deleted, or “purge” the emails, which means to permanently delete them. As you can see, there are 3 steps to take before permanently deleting something.

There are technically 3 steps to deleting here on Scratch, too (unsharing, deleting, emptying trash)

But whether or not they add this feature, you really should be more careful with what you put in the trash. It's like putting your new phone in the trash because it does not work, but then you realize how to fix it but the garbage truck already came in and emptied your trash.

IMO they should just add check boxes next to each project and you can select the items you want to unshare / delete / permanently delete, so you don't have to either click every single project one by one or accidentally delete a project you wanted, but that should be its own separate suggestion.

I should be more careful lol. When I first joined, I was in the habit of deleting things I unshared. But I have a sucky memory and I forgot some stuff was in there

there truly IS a way to (sorta) restore the deleted ones.

click on your username in the top right
press account settings
and then, press “I want to delete my account” (trust me)
you might see a few of your projects that have been permanently deleted (“sent to the dump”, I'd say)
right click on the one you want and press “copy link address”
head over to phosphorus.github.io
you should see “scratch.mit.edu/projects/” text. click it, then press ctrl+a, and then ctrl+v.

and that's it! hope you find this useful. bye!

There is a way!

1. Go to delete my account (I promise)
2. You should see some deleted projects. IF the one is there, click it.
3. Go inside.
4. Go to file. Then, go to “save as a copy”
5. Go to my stuff and you should see “your game” copy.
6. Delete copy from the name!
7. There is no step 7.

the whole “delete account” thing works, but you can only get about 5 or so projects back from it, which you can't then delete to see other projects. a while back (2 years ago actually) someone figured out my password and deleted every single project i had, which is why i'm so inactive on scratch now; i just can't be bothered with it anymore.

as i said earlier, you can only get 5 projects back from this method, and 3 of them were just untitled projects.

2 whole projects out of my at least 20+ that were deleted.
really annoying, but oh well.

All the Fnaf 2 projects were deleted but they had warnings on them but they got deleted anyway they were exactly like the real game and the creators worked countless days on it so basically scratch wants us to make masterpieces and trash them after countless hours I like to see one of them make a fnaf project and delete it in other words they shouldn't be able to destroy what we created who's with me!!!

Well, in particular, if these projects were “exactly like the real game,” then we have an additional problem. People could just come to Scratch to play the game for free, and the creator of the FNAF series would lose money as a result. Due to copyright issues, I'd say that project had a right to be taken down and deleted.

For that, I agree totally with you, most games have a restore, or at least two step before deleting something or deleting the account. Good idea.

I don't think we should be able to restore projects that have permanently been deleted, because you've already put it into your trash, clearly had another warning and had to enter your password, etc. You just have to be more careful next time. However, I do partially agree with you about having a short delay before actually your trash actually empties out.

As others have mentioned, you shouldn't put a project in the trash if you don't intend to delete it.

How about the ones that we took hours and hours on and get deleted by scratch like fnaf 2?

If you make a Scratch project that is not appropriate for the website, just keep it on your computer and don't share it on the website.
