Put sprites in backdrops
What do you mean by “putting sprites in backdrops”? The backdrop is simply the background; sprites will appear on top of it regardless of how it looks. If you mean importing a sprite onto the backdrop, thus making it unable to move, then you can save a screenshot of the sprite to your computer (or simply “download to computer” option while right-clicking the costume), and then upload it using the “Import” feature on the background, and choose the sprite you need.

You should specify what you mean by putting sprites in backdrops.
EDIT: Oh, the person above me already said that

Or, easier way to do it, simply drag the sprite into your backpack, switch to the backdrops tab, and drop the sprite into the row of backdrops. If you mean importing a sprite onto the backdrop, thus making it unable to move, then you can save a screenshot of the sprite to your computer (or simply “download to computer” option while right-clicking the costume), and then upload it using the “Import” feature on the background, and choose the sprite you need.

There isn't any reason to. Maybe this will help…
It might help to picture Scratch working like this…
Think of a stack of sheets of clear plastic. There are pictures drawn on the plastic sheets.
The bottom sheet cannot be resized or moved and always is on SHOW. That's the backdrop.
The sheets above the backdrop are sprites. They can be moved, resized, and set to SHOW or HIDE.
So sprites are always on the backdrop. You just have to turn them on and off with the HIDE and SHOW controls.
