I've got Sun and Moon on cartridge and installed to my SD card! And I only bought the cartridge version
A9LH / Luma 3DS / GodMode9 is the best combination! Took about 2 hours to install Pokemon Sun and Moon from the cartridge though
And I duplicated my save file so I have the same save on SD card and on cartridge!
And I also put Pokemon Sun & Moon on a USB stick. Maybe it will play with citra? Let's find out!

Edit: I would need to do a long and complicated process to make it work on citra
