Welcome to Rysomotus! We are a comedic animation collab, meaning we put out humorous animations. To begin this thread, I'll answer some questions you may be inclined to ask.

What does Rysomotus mean?

According to Google Translate, “motus” is Latin for “motion” (referring to the effect of motion that animation creates) and “risum” is Latin for “laugh” (referring to comedy). Put the two together and with some slight alterations you get “Rysomotus”.

Do I use bitmap or vector to animate in this collab?

Good question. We will generally use vector for less artistic things like simple characters and bitmap for more artistic things like backgrounds, etc.

Who do you need to help right now?

Writers, composers, animators, voice actors, and artists. If you want to help with concept development, consider joining as a writer. Composers create or find the background music (if necessary). Animators, of course, animate everything. Of course, for most of our animations, we'll need voicing, so we need voice actors as well. Finally, artists generally do things like drawing backgrounds and such.

How do I join?

There's no form because we don't really need (m)any credentials to welcome people to this collab. Simply state what you would like to join as and you're in!

ANNOUNCEMENTS - 4/17/2017

Announcement 1: First Animation

We are officially announcing our first animation, Inside Toad's Factory (not a working title)! For those of you who don't know, Toad's Factory is a course in the racing game Mario Kart Wii. There's not all that much to say about the course, other than the fact that there's a factory owned by Toad and it has some sick music. So we decided to remix the Toad's Factory theme, put lyrics on top of it, and make an animation out of that. The premise (purpose/funny part) of the animation is that his factory is so bland and generic that the machinery doesn't even really produce anything, but Toad still wants you to visit it for some reason. Here's the basic process for making it:

1. Compose a remix of the Toad's Factory theme. Composers, this part is definitely for you guys! By remix I don't mean like adding drums or something like that, I mean fully reorchestrating the theme and all the instruments and maybe adding creative touches here and there. Gonna take a lot of work, but I believe in us!
2. Write some lyrics to go along with the finished remix that stick with the premise. This is most likely for the writers. As always, writers, make sure the lyrics have some comedic merit. If you want, you can even put dialogue in some parts!
3. Record the lyrics and mix both tracks. For the first part, we’re gonna need one or two voice actors, which probably won’t be a huge deal. Putting together the lyrics and the music is likely easy enough for the musicians – the big issue is lining up the timings. Composers, make sure you make the voice actors aware of the BPM of the remix so they can sing at that tempo.
4. Plan the animation. Not much to say here. Artists/animators, this is where you let your creative side shine!
5. Start animating and drawing! Draw backgrounds and animate characters. The hard part here is lip-syncing – if you can do simple lip sync, it would be greatly appreciated!
6. Put on Rysomotus logo, etc. and release project. I will generally take care of this stuff because I have the Rysomotus logos on my hard drive and I currently have ownership of the Rysomotus account. Despite all this though, I don’t want you to think of me as the manager – I want you to think of me as a member. Remember, all users in the collab are equally important. :D

So anyway, I can draw in both vector and bitmap but my animations are really bad in bitmap. I also draw in Sumo Paint occasionally. Actually, after reading what you said, I can probably do any of the jobs you mentioned at the top but I'll mostly be an artist and composer. (I can sing and play alto saxophone as well as a little guitar and violin. I can also make little songs in Scratch.)
