If anyone is low on gold

Fastest way to make money:

You need to have completed the Dark Brotherhood Questline.
If you haven't, complete it.

When the Dark Brotherhood quests are completed, a series of quests will follow, each one is called The Dark Brotherhood forever. These quests are very simple. Each one pays 1200 gold each, which means that you can buy Breezehome in Whiterun by doing five of these quests.

See, the problem with that is that you have to join the Dark Brotherhood which goes against most of my characters' morals. I prefer joining the Thieves Guild for a thief-like character.

The thieves guild will make you only a quarter of the money the dark brotherhood will make you. Trust me, the dark brotherhood is better. And when you join the Dark Brotherhood, there's a dope sword you can find on the Katariah.

The thieves guild can pay just as well as the Dark Brother hood if you steal everything else in the house as well. . For my Khajiit (both Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood) I usually use the thieves guild for money because it pays decently in just quest rewards and other things of value in the house are usually enough to make up for the slightly lower pay. And you also have to pay less direct gold in fines if caught but you might have a lot of stolen goods confiscated. And one last note to Thieves, the Honningbrew Meadery is the best place to rob. Probably at least a dozen barrels of honningbrew mead in there which is worth approximately 15-20 gold a bottle. Each barrel has like 5 or more in there. I ended up with nearly a hundred bottles of that stuff.

Like I said, I prefer a thief character to an assassin character that does shady business and kills people who may be innocent.

Where should I sell rings and garnets? I've got a fair few of them and I don't know where to sell them.
Yeah, same problem here. Items like that tend to gather in my inventory. Maybe just try traveling between each town and selling them to multiple merchants.
Sell them to the khajit or the general goods shop in Whiterun

The Khajit in Whiterun?

Yes, the Khajit kinda wonder around Skyrim, like near the entrance of Whiterun.
