Too Much Music
As a is anybody experiencing the same problem I have. It seems that there are a lot of Scratch projects which are simply a screen slide and a popular song in the audio. I'm sure that copy write has not been paid on this music and my kids spend more time looking for something to listen to rather than working on their projects. Surely these projects should be taken down!

They're not taken down because the copyright holder has to ask for it to happen and none of them bother.

And the project, including sounds, are specified to not carry copyright, so it doesn't effect the company.

Scratch follows the same copyright laws as anyone else. Fair use can be used as a defence for certain instances of copyright infringement, but it wouldn't apply to most copyrighted music on Scratch.

Yeah, as far as I'm aware the only reason those projects aren't taken down is because none of the copyright holders actually care enough to bother sending Scratch a DMCA. I'm guessing Scratch projects simply aren't seen as enough of a problem to try to get them taken down, especially because it would take quite a while to hunt them all down.

As well, it doesn't matter legally unless the reproducer is profiting off it.

As well as all the above reasons, these projects arn't against the Scratch rules. However, I have never seen such a project before. Another point that I should mention is that, your kids should be able to freely explore these projects, they might give then inspiration for their own project. Also working just on a project and not looking at others is not good for ideas (on personal experience) as you might overwork your brain.

I think it depends on the person – I rarely look at such music-slide projects, but I know they exist (those projects are often in the “recently shared” section). Your kids may spend most of their time on Scratch looking for music projects, but that really only means they're more interested in music projects than programming things. I think that getting rid of projects that people like is a bad idea, since that's likely to cause people to not have interest in Scratch anymore. Instead, I think we should try to make people more interested in programming projects. Don't force them to look at programming projects – or quit – instead try to make them want to look at them. (And then, of course, program something inspired by the project they saw..)
“But if we remove those music projects, they're more likely to see programming projects and be inspired by those!” True, but this could only really be helpful to new Scratchers, those who joined after such simple music projects were removed, since they'd never want to see those in the first place. People would be upset if the projects they liked were suddenly removed (or they'd at least not find the type of project they were interested in, and they'd quit Scratch out of disinterest, and hence have no chance at finding programming projects..) And what if a potential new Scratcher's friends suggested Scratch because of those projects? So they come, but those projects aren't there?
“But copyrights!”/“But fair use!” As I said above, I'm not getting into that. It may be “right” to take down projects that infringe musical copyrights, but I'm not going to be the one to decide (or discuss, since it's well-discussed (and will be) by many other people.

As well, it doesn't matter legally unless the reproducer is profiting off it.The only issue with it is the fact that you can see inside and download - most artists post ‘free to listen’ but not ‘free to download’ music online.

Disclaimer: this post is not taking into account copyright issues.Yes. Really what should happen is the ST should ‘suppress’ these projects - not signed in users or users joining after their creation couldn't see them - and thus they couldn't fall into that trap. Eventually those projects would die out - if they stop getting a person attention, and that's all they want (which in this case, it typically is) they will unshare it or leave it alone and stop tending it - which means that they likely wouldn't care if they disappeared one by one.

To go along with this, the ST could make it so that projects more than a year old got unshared and had to be reshared - if they didn't care to reshare it, it'd just ‘scroll off’.

Scratch doesn't care about projects and nobody is making any money.
I agree though that a lot of stupid unneccessary projects seem to fill up Scratch, kind of why I moved to another language

No support. The creators of these projects are not profiting off of making these projects, so they aren't against scratch rules.
