My theory is that he could only attack you at the very end because Karma got rid of your mercy frames.
He couldn't defend Papyrus because his attacks wouldn't do much of anything due to his low ATK.
Meanwhile, when you get Karmic Retribution, his attacks do way more damage because you've lost the mercy frames of invincibility.
It's only fitting that Karma shows up right before you're fighting a skeleton who really wants to serve justice
and bad times

Well, i think Flowey still had the ‘mercy frames’, although Flowey did have LOVE 999 or something along those lines, so he'd be way past that point.

As for Sans being overrated, that has nothing to do with Sans in the game. that's just the fandom. And he has plenty of personality – you just have to know where to look.

As for Sans being overrated, that has nothing to do with Sans in the game. that's just the fandom. And he has plenty of personality – you just have to know where to look.

Also, I'm pretty sure at least Toriel would also have tried to stop Flowey, but he caught them all by surprise so none of them got the chance.

And I've said this before, but I do really like Sans in the game. I personally don't think he's the best character, but he's entertaining and I love how he manages to break all logic without even trying XD
I don't like the fandom version of him that much though, because most people seem to get his character wrong, and he's EVERYWHERE. I just wish the other characters got as much love.
