Welcome to the ✰ Complete List of Rejected Suggestions ✰! Here is where I will list any rejected suggestions. I will not provide workarounds, as there is already a sticky for that. I ask that you not suggest new features here. If you do, it will just be ignored, and possibly reported. Click the links below to go to the different lists.

Note: I have now noticed that this has become a sticky. I have been working on a replacement, as this has been getting old and not edited. I have conflicts with school, but during school breaks I can work to edit and put this back up to standard.

✰ ITopic: Complete List of Rejected Suggestions ✰

Rejected Features Explainations

The following are rejected features for the website. Explanations are included.

  1. Cloud Chats
Allowing cloud chats and free chat rooms are not allowed due to the potential for bullying, and the toughness of moderating. If you would like to create chat, then you need to have a list with suitable messages, or create a whitelist, where you type in a message, and the message is run through a dictionary, and then words not on the dictionary are censored. An example of a whitelist is here. An example of a Cloud Chat is here.

  2. Private Messages

    Scratch Wiki wrote:

While PMing may be helpful, the Scratch Team believes there will be to great of a possibility of it not being constructive to Scratch.

It would be nearly impossible to moderate the massive number of messages people would send to each other.
The website wasn't made for the purpose of private messaging; other websites can be used.
It goes against the “sharing” aspect of Scratch. Having everything public gives a sense of community spirit, whereas if people could communicate privately, this would be ruined.
It allows people to be mean and bully more easily without letting other users notice.
It allows people to gossip about other users.
It goes against the general rules of internet safety, especially since Scratch is a website meant for minors.
It would greatly increase the amount of spam and wasted server space.

  3. Restricting Sharing/See Inside
The motto of Scratch is Imagine, Program, Share. Lets quote the Terms and Conditions of this site
4.3 All user-generated content you submit to Scratch is licensed to and through Scratch under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 license. This allows others to view and remix your content. This license also allows the Scratch Team to display, distribute, and reproduce your content on the Scratch website, through social media channels, and elsewhere. If you do not want to license your content under this license, then do not share it on Scratch.
Paddle2See addressed this idea by saying:

    Paddle2See wrote:

We depend very heavily on our community to help us keep an eye on things and make sure that the Community Guidelines are being followed. Reducing the number of people that can see a project increases the likelihood that inappropriate content could be shared without being reported. That's a risk that we are not willing to take. Keeping everything out in the open is the best way we have found to help keep Scratch friendly and safe.

  4. Rating Projects
New users may likely create simple projects at first which will receive low ratings. They will then feel bad and want to leave.

  5. Removing 60/120 Second Rule

    Scratch Wiki wrote:

The sixty-second rule exists to prevent spammers from quickly filling the forums with spam. While the rule does not stop them completely, it greatly decreases the amount of spam posts, giving the Community Moderators and the Scratch Team more time to deal with any problems before they grow too large.

  6. Removing Restricted Image Hosts/Adding your own sites
These are there as they do not accept inappropriate images, just like Scratch. Scratch Team member Lightning says that the Scratch Team doesn't have the time to add everyone's sites to the whitelist.

  7. Deleting comments on other profiles/Deleting Forum Posts
It is so you cant just post spam and stuff. Jvvg says it better:

    jvvg wrote:

This is so that people can't post troll comments and then delete them, while you aren't likely to troll people on your own projects, studios, or profile…)

  8. 3D Scratch

    jvvg wrote:

Scratch is a language that is designed to be as easy as possible for beginners to pick up. Adding 3D would make the language extremely complicated, and much more difficult for beginners to understand. There is a sister program to Scratch that contains 3D features, called Starlogo TNG. However, a different group has started developing a 3D version of Scratch that you can see at www.scratch3d.org.

  9. <broadcast received>

    jvvg wrote:

There is way too much ambiguity to how this would work. Would it return true of the broadcast was fired at any point since the project was created, since the green flag was clicked, since something else was broadcasted, etc.? If you really want to do something like this, instead just make a variable and set it to 1 and use the equals block.

  10. Game Badges/Achievements
On this suggestion, the user Faillord wrote
Basically what I'm saying is, Scratch is not a gaming site. It is for making and sharing projects, including games, but if you want achievements for what you make, then sorry, it could be harmful. If you want achievements, program them into your projects, make a badge project for yourself and make it your profile feature, but we don't need this system for rating users.

  11. Changing Usernames
    Paddle2See says
Unfortunately, this would create too much confusion in the community - and our system isn't setup to handle it. Please feel free to make a new username if you are not happy with your current name.

  12. Off-Topic/Miscellaneous Forum
It was shut down for multiple reasons. You can read the Wiki article on it. It has been split up into Things I'm Making/Doing and Things I'm Playing/Creating.

  13. 13+ Site
Scratch is for all ages. Simple as that.

  14. Removing Add Everything Studios
It is not against the Community Guidelines. Just remove your project if you don't want it there.

  15. Scratch Money
    Paddle2See wrote
Scratch is an educational site for learning and creating - not for making money. Charging money to run scripts would limit people's access to Scratch. It would also add a lot of complexity to the site without any clear benefit towards increasing the educational value.

  16. Remove Phone # Sensor
It is so users don't share their personal information.

  17. Text Based Games
    Read this.

  18. Banning Minor Remixes
    See explanation 3.

  19. Banning Follow For Follow
    Paddle2See wrote
However, I don't think we will be acting on your suggestion - because it's not enforceable (how would you stop people from asking for f4f?) and it's essentially harmless (if you don't want to participate in f4f, just politely decline). Tell them that you prefer to follow based on things you find interesting.

  20. Ignore List (Blocking Users)
It just buries the problem. If you have a problem, report the user.

  21. Adding Ranks above Scratcher
    Not clear whether rejected.

  22. When Stop Sign Clicked
This will cause more scripts to start when you want to stop the project.

  23. Live Editing
    Paddle2See wrote
I agree that it isn't something we can support right now, because of the moderation and technical issues, however I don't agree with the statement that it teaches bad collaboration techniques. Just because it isn't the way something is done now, or by most people, isn't always a good reason to reject it.

I do think it should be added to the rejection list because the moderation and technical issues are quite substantial and I don't think we should spend time discussing it until we have more resources available to address those.

  24. Banning Voice Acting
Currently, there is not enough technology to track you based on your voice.

  25. Banning Projects with No Programming

    Harakou wrote:

It is. Scratch is a site that encourages creativity in many forms. We'd love it if everyone used the programming aspect, but we're not going to require it.

Coming Soon

The following is a list of features that Scratch 3.0 might or will contain:

Custom reporters.
Text-drawing pen blocks.
iOS and Android support via an HTML5 based editor.
A 16:9 option for higher quality projects.
Projects (possibly) play at 60 ticks and frames per second, rather than 30 (and previously 40).
A horizontal block layout. This is similar to how ScratchJr displays blocks. The new layout is being added because it is more compact, and hence will be easier to use on mobile devices.

On this post in this topic at the end, there is a mistake after “vector eraser.”

Correct.
And then the ST will decide if they'd like to sticky it.

Since this is a suggestion, support. I do feel that the sticky could be redone, and that although jvvg does update it, he's not really active enough for it. Also I just want to be on the front page of a stickied topic. Err, ITopic

Anyway, grammar mistakes;

(Post 2) 24. Vector Eraser/b]

(Post 4)
when costum switches to costume [ v]::events//costum rather than costume, and it should be a hat.
And that's all I saw so far.

I used to be active on the forums, but I have mostly moved past Scratch. I still do check my Scratch messages, so if you'd like to talk to me, just leave a comment on my profile. My main project on Scratch was Cookie Clicker, but my newest project is Snake Snake, a game based off of Snake, but with two snakes, and you can play either singleplayer or multiplayer.

My rejected suggestion was keyframe animation in scratch. Could you please add it to the list?

If you're seeing this signature, that means I've come out of my social anxiety hole.

Also, I edit the Scratch Wiki. Check it out sometime it's cool I guess.
