Prisons in my series are nice. you get to talk to fluffy kittens with giant foam mallets :3Out of interest, have you been reading the responses (no offence)? I don't want to be rude, but I already explained that you don't make the punishment lesser just because people have been falsely convicted, otherwise prisons would be nice.I don't know how it feels to be banned, but I agree with jokebookservice1; being banned is a punishment.Well, a sibling may be using your account and you don't know it
Remember, it's not like the kids don't know they're doing something wrong; they don't just get banned on the spot, they get banned after a few alerts. It's their fault if they don't read the alerts or they continue the bad behaviour.
I feel like the users are banned from viewing projects to prevent from using Cloud Data to chat on chat rooms, and to prevent commenting. It might even be to prevent favourites, as if you favourite a project, it'll save it for later, so if you finally get the ban repealed then you could go right to that favourited project, unfavourite, then spam it.
Getting banned is a punishment; and if you think the punishment is unfair, then just don't do those bad things that'll get you banned.
(don't ask i'm weird)

- Snip! -If a sibling is using your account and you don't know it, that's kind of your fault for letting them find your password or giving it to them.

WHAT I MEAN is you might have forgotten to log out of Scratch, and your sibling went onto your account while you were asleep, and some people may have trouble remembering passwords (like me, so I tend to make them similar)- Snip! -If a sibling is using your account and you don't know it, that's kind of your fault for letting them find your password or giving it to them.

Have you read my post or jokebook's post(s)? That example is irrelevant because you shouldn't be punished in the first place.WHAT I MEAN is you might have forgotten to log out of Scratch, and your sibling went onto your account while you were asleep, and some people may have trouble remembering passwords (like me, so I tend to make them similar)- Snip! -If a sibling is using your account and you don't know it, that's kind of your fault for letting them find your password or giving it to them.

We understand what you mean, but your point is an opinion we disagree with. The Scratch Team decided that you behaved badly, so you should be punished for it so you don't do it again. If you feel the ST made a mistake, then appeal.this. is. what. i mean. being banned unfairly you should still be able to view projectsHave you read my post or jokebook's post(s)? If you're banned unfairly, then you shouldn't have been banned at all - and that's when you go appeal your ban. Your punishment in that case is irrelevant because it's not like it's hard to appeal.this. is. what. i mean. being banned unfairly you should still be able to view projectsHave you read my post or jokebook's post(s)? So then your issue is with appealing, not what punishments you receive. Here's the issue - you claim things are “unfair” and then say unfair bans shouldn't have the current punishment, yet the only way to determine if a ban is unfair is to go through the appeal process!sometimes they ask for your parents to respond, and some people don't like their parents knowing what they do online, or they ask to call them and some people might not have phonesIf you're banned unfairly, then you shouldn't have been banned at all - and that's when you go appeal your ban. Your entire argument here is based on one word: “Might”.
You provide some examples, and a lot of them to see how often this happens. Then, we may start to support this suggestion.
For the time being, though, the rule is: If you're banned, odds are you deserved it; if it was an accident, contact the Scratch Team about it.
That's all there is to it; there's a few people who do get banned, but the vast majority of those people deserved it.

Well, could you at least provide us with an accurate percentage of how often this happens? Even an estimate would be nice.Your entire argument here is based on one word: “Might”.i can't

Unfortunately we can't give leeway because of someone else using your account, no matter what the reason. For one, because it's an extremely common excuse, it's difficult to verify, and ultimately, what happens on your account remains your responsibility. If it's a common problem for you, you need to find some way to better secure your account.WHAT I MEAN is you might have forgotten to log out of Scratch, and your sibling went onto your account while you were asleep, and some people may have trouble remembering passwords (like me, so I tend to make them similar)- Snip! -If a sibling is using your account and you don't know it, that's kind of your fault for letting them find your password or giving it to them.

I'm also not sure what you mean by viewing projects while banned. You can already do that: just log out.

Just to clear up the being banned from spam of loves and favs, looks like it doesn't happen.
I can verify that griefer123 was either banned or their account was deleted, however.

Some people are talking about being banned for spamming loves and favorites - you can't be banned for doing it yourself. griefer123 was a bot which favorited many projects a second, so the ban there wasn't that it was just favoriting a lot of projects, but that it was overloading the server. You can read more about it here.
As for the suggestion, I support. I don't have a problem with banned people viewing the site, or even working on their unshared projects, as long as they can't interact with people on it.

What I suggest is that the ST adds a new level of banning. We have temporary bans, which are usually for first-time bad actions; we have permanent account bans, which are for really bad things over again; and we have IP bans, which are for banned users who make a new account to continue wreaking havoc.
A new level of banning, before temporary bans, would be “sharing bans”. That is, if you've done something lightly bad more than once, you're blocked from sharing projects or commenting or posting, but you can still look at projects, work on projects that are unshared, and love or fave (when signed in).
I personally have never been banned, so I don't know the frustration involved in a temporary ban; but I think this new level would reduce the frustration while still clearly showing that it's punishment.
