Pokemon Competitive Battling: The Topic
EDITED 1/24/17
If this is not the Pokémon forum you're looking for, here's the current main Pokémon topic. It was created by WolfCat67, so if you have any questions about the forum, you should probably ask them.
This topic is about competitive Pokémon battling. If you wish to know more, here's some information:
What is Competitive Battling?
Pokémon competitive battling, according to smogon.com, is the “art of playing Pokémon to win.” Also according to the site, “Competitive Pokémon emphasizes an understanding of game mechanics, team organization, and battle tactics, rather than cramming four moves of differing types on your Pokémon and picking whichever one is super effective.” In order to win a competitive battle, you must knock-out (aka “faint”) all of your opponent's Pokémon (kind of like the actual main Pokémon rules). Competitive battling is mostly through Wi-Fi Battles, and are usually done using the Wi-Fi of newer Pokémon games rather than old. Another thing when it comes to this style of Pokémon battles is sweeping. Sweeping is when you only use one Pokémon to attack the opposing player's Pokémon and wiping them all out completely without switching out the Pokémon you're going to try and sweep with. Set-ups (like laying out switch-in traps (e.g. Stealth Rock) and creating status effects) are allowed as well.
Natures
The nature your Pokémon have are crucial to competitive battling. While most of the time through your normal Pokémon adventure you would ignore natures, the natures will determine what stats you should raise and/or what moves you should let your Pokémon use. Natures raise one stat and lower another (both by 10%), or don't do anything at all. Some natures include:
-Adamant: increases attack, but lowers special attack
-Bold: increases defense, lowers attack
-Naughty: increases attack, lowers special defense
Natures also determine what berries the Pokémon likes and dislikes. Each berry is linked to a stat: spicy berries for attack. sour berries for defense, sweet berries for speed, dry berries for special attack, and bitter berries for special defense. Just like the natures, eating one it likes increases the stat and eating one that the Pokémon dislikes lowers a stat. There are some special berries; for example, Wiki Berries. If the Pokémon hates the taste of this berry, it will confuse it.
Effort Values (EVs)
(The rest of the info will be from smogon.com)
EVs are numbers (often referred to as “invisible” numbers) that can increase a Pokémon's stat. Every 4 EVs in a specific stat is equal to 1 point in that stat. Every Pocket Monster (Pokémon heheh-) is capable of having a maximum of 510 EVs (maximum of 255 EVs per stat).
Individual Values (IVs)
Unlike EVs, IVs are not changeable and are permanent* when obtaining a Pokémon. IVs change your Pokémon's stats in varying ways, which allow two of the exact same Pokémon with the same nature to still have different stats. These invisible numbers range from 0 - 31; 0 being the lowest, and 31 being the highest.
*IVs can be changed through the newly-introduced Hyper Training, but won't be passed down through breeding.
Now that you know mostly about competitive battling, you may now discuss! Make sure to follow Scratch Guidelines.

There were a few mistakes in the OP, so I'm editing it for you; feel free to quote this and copy-paste it into the original if you'd like. Nice formatting, by the way. You may also want to change the title to include both the accented e (é) and fixing the spelling of “competitive”. Maybe bring up breeding, too?

OH, JUST SO YOU KNOW:
You can only have a maximum of 252 EVs in each stat, not 255. It was changed as the 3 extra EVs would count towards nothing, so now you can add more onto other stats.

@WolfCat67
Stating the gender of your Pokémon is really unnecessary, unless you're using a move like Attract or an ability like Rivalry to take advantage of it.

I just thought it would be there so that you could see which Pokémon would affect it with Attract and which Pokémon would not get the Rivalry boost. It's a tiny, tiny part of it, but it still has some sort of effect in battle. @WolfCat67

Speaking of Showdown, I only play the random battles now. Making teams is both difficult and tedious.

I like using a fun Durant+Dugtrio gimmick. It's easy to prevent, but only if you pay attention and/or are smart.

I don't like OU, mainly because I think that a name such as OVERused couldn't be more fitting.
But that's just my two cents.

I would say UU, it's fun to try out Pokemon that aren't used very often, but I only use this for Showdown!, in the actual PKMN games, I don't really use tiers. What is your favorite tier (to all)
