Can I upload .gifs to my projects?

I was about to put a .gif into my project until the screen froze. Can somebody please tell me if I can use .gifs in my projects? And what other files can I use?

I know that you can sorta use .gif's. It will just add all the images from the gif to the sprite, so maybe your gif was too long and it froze up scratch. Can't say much else.

To add a gif, try clicking the button to upload a sprite from your computer.

Each frame of the gif should become a costume in the new sprite.

The only reason scratch would freeze would be if the gif was too large.

GIF images can be a single image or an animated(multiple images joined).
Other formats you can use are JPG, JPEG, BMP, PNG and SVG.

Yes, you can use gifs! After adding them into your project, use this code to make the gif move:

forever
wait (0.1) secs
next costume
end

If the screen froze, it probably meant that the file was too large

Yes, you can use gifs! After adding them into your project, use this code to make the gif move:
forever
wait (0.1) secs
next costume
end
If the screen froze, it probably meant that the file was too large

or you can just do

wait (0) secs

because 0.1 will make the gif abit slower.

Be sure that your project is stopped (press the stop sign even more than one time) prior to import any stuff.

It won't work in MP4 of course, but if you take a picture of every single second of the video and upload all of them to Scratch and use the script VideoGamerCanlnvent recommended!

The whole purpose of being able to upload gifs to scratch is so that you don't have to take a picture of every frame. It actually seems like the scratch team very often will completely neglect or ignore a certain feature to add or to fix in scratch simply because there's “a way around it”.

I'm having a similar problem. I click the upload button and it does not do anything. I can upload still images but not gifs. Please help!
