Because the only thing that should matter about links is the page that they lead to.
I meant to say which is.

No posting links to inappropriate sites.
No posting links to sites with unmoderated chat.
No posting links to sites that contain malware.
Please ask the Scratch Team for the full list.
Define ‘inappropriate’, and how would it be known if there is unmoderated chat or malware?

Sigton
I don't know how Scratch does it now. Please ask the Scratch Team.

This quote chain is getting kind of long relative to past quote chains that were at length three when they were snipped by Sigton; next thing you know, someone will unsnip a quote.

I believe the OP meant that current system Scratch uses for non-shortened links would also apply to the destination of shortened links

As far as I know it's just a blacklist of a few specific sites. Any sites whose URLs would trip the standard filter are also blocked. Only links within Scratch are actually turned into hyperlinks though.

No support for the suggestion. I would rather see the actual URL I'm going to than blindly follow a tinyurl link.

It's not like they could lead you to an inappropriate site unless the actual link does the same.

Yes they could. It's a blacklist, so unless the ST has specifically banned a site you can still post it.

At the very least, if it was a plain URL you would know if it's a site you recognise.

You could use TinyUrl's preview function.

What's the problem with having two comments though? It means we don't have to use link shortneres which as we can see here a lot of people don't trust.

No offense, but who wants to open the preview site and type in the shortened URL?

Besides, I get security warning messages, and then I have to log in as an administrator to allow access.
