bbCode in Comments?
The first one is specifically about using BBCode in comments.Isn't there another suggestion about using forum markup in comments?I think I saw one once, but over a year ago so it might be hard to find.
Here and here among others. This is the longest topic about it, but the first one I linked is long enough that it could be merged with this.

BBCode is a way to bold, italicize, and underline, among other formatting. The first one is specifically about using BBCode in comments.Isn't there another suggestion about using forum markup in comments?I think I saw one once, but over a year ago so it might be hard to find.

Please read my signature! It might explain some lingo that I used in my post or comment. However, not all of it shows, so you have to highlight the entire bottom of the post, from “Please read my signature!” to where it says report, and copy and paste in into a new sheet or tab or whatever.
I can't decide my signature between:
1. I'm a grammar stickler, and my pet peeve is when people use good as an adverb.
2. I have lots of [creativity]original ideas[/creativity]. [creativity]This[/creativity] is one of those ideas.
3. If I used this symbol: ⸮ in my comment, please look it up before doing anything else.
4. {Minot, North Dakota/Donald Trump parodies} “WE'RE GONNA BUILD A DAM AND MAKE CANADA PAY FOR IT!” “When Canada sends its water, they’re not sending their best drinking water…They’re bringing sleet. They’re bringing floods. The water's toxic.” (It's just a joke that I came up with.)
5. One should make his/her signature text small; that way (s)he can cram more text into the signature.
6. New [scratchblocks] idea each week! (Thanks to Bright-Idea (Read her signature.) for inspiration/the general idea.) Here's the archive:
Note: I stopped this because of signature character limits.

I know that. I'm just saying that the first topic linked in that post isn't exactly a duplicate of this topic because it's specifically about using BBCode, rather than another type of formatting.BBCode is a way to bold, italicize, and underline, among other formatting. The first one is specifically about using BBCode in comments.Isn't there another suggestion about using forum markup in comments?I think I saw one once, but over a year ago so it might be hard to find.

Again, not every parent wants their child going to external sites, and what about my post tells you I should read the sticky you gave me? I'm confused, unless you meant #3.

Semi-support. Seems useful, but it could be spammed. Also, unlike posts, comments have a character limit.

Yes, that is another reason why I can't fully support it. You can't put half a bbCode in the comments. It will get you nowhere. Semi-support. Seems useful, but it could be spammed. Also, unlike posts, comments have a character limit.

Uhh.. the only real thing I support is the bold/italicize/underline/strikethrough functions.

Full support for some form of formatting. Maybe Markdown?
**bold**
*italic*
_also italic_
__underline__
***they can be __combined__***
`code`
bold thing - italic thing - underlined thing - strikethrough thing

Since I can see for myself how frustrating fitting the censor into BBCode would be, I'd suggest using StackOverflow's subset of Markdown, which should have a lesser likelihood of tripping up the censor.

Since a comment is a comment, I don't think that the comment needs that effects. Plus that would occupy a lot of space and can be used to spam. But semi support, because:
b, i, u, s would be helpful!to emphatize the comment. but basic things like links,

So like Microsoft Word?Well, the censoring software is a third-party package (not created in-house at the MIT Media lab) so I don't know what language it is in - nor can we make changes to it easily (other than to make suggestions to the company supplying it). But thanks for the offer!I agree with Paddle2See also about the censoring software, but if someone was willing to check out all the codes for BBCode and put in every possible bad word using BBCode into the software, that would fix it. I might be able to do this if I had the code for the parsers. I support the general idea of changing the format of comments. But as Paddle put it, sometimes BBCode makes it easier to type bad words because you can put the code in the middle of a word which causes the parser to forget it was reading a bad word.

I can also see this as a problem since comments have a pretty small limit and the BBCode tags would probably take up too much space, so instead of that maybe just some buttons that let you bold, italicize, underline, and/or strikethrough the text like the ones on Google Docs, Microsoft Word, etc.
