How to understand scracth language ?
When I try to program an animation(or any project for that matter) sometimes the program doesn't understand what I'm trying to tell it to get my desired effect, but when I read the blocks over to myself it makes sense to me but not the program, therefore ends up being some miscommunication and things end up getting messy. Is there any way for me to understand how the programming language works?

How to understand scracth language ?
You could try out some of the tutorials on the right side of the editor.
Another way to understand it it to look inside other peoples projects and see ow they work! @griffpatch_tutor also has some tutorials on how to do stuff.

it's not a specific project, it is just in general, I'm trying to understand how the program makes sense out of things so i can make my own scripts and get exactly what I want

Say if i want to move the scratch cat 10 frames

So the question is how can I understand the language of scratches understanding so I can make more complex scripts like for example, making space physics for a platforming sprite (kinda like learning code )

when flag clicked

The problem is that the two blocks aren't connected. Your script should actually be: Say if i want to move the scratch cat 10 frames
In scratches language that iswhen flag clickedMove 10 steps

when green flag clickedTo do more complex scripts, @-frostyiceprincess- is right. There are some great tutorials on Scratch for you to learn platforming.

10 framesIt moves it 10 Say if i want to move the scratch cat pixels in the direction the sprite is pointing.
In scratches language that iswhen flag clicked-snip-
move (10) steps
I think the problem is your understanding of what the blocks do is a bit different to their actual use.
