Note: This topic formerly suggested microphone sensing blocks too, but a new topic will be made for that.
I don't think the current camera sensing blocks are functional enough. Currently, the only camera sensing options are video motion and direction. I think Scratch needs more. Here are some of my ideas:

1. Video interactivity
I think it should be possible to do things to the video picture. Like these:

I think more should be detectable with the video:

3. Interactive camera recording (credit to The_Winged_Cat)
There should be a way to record video for a certain amount of time:

my only ideas would be that the recording could be used for the bad, and maybe the sound detected wouldnt work unless you had a expensive mic

I know this has been suggested before, but I think there should be a way to record sounds made by the viewer using the microphone.

But these are all related. I thought the rule was no long lists of completely unrelated blocks.
Also, this was actually originally going to be part of a list of several suggestions, but I just posted this one because I thought it was the most important.

Make sure that the video recording stuff can NOT save to the cloud, and also so that, if saved while that's on the thumbnail, won't save the picture.
That way, we won't have any “pictures” showing up online.

But people who really want to will find a way.
Anyway, it technically is feasible to take a picture and save it to the cloud already…

No, no no no. If someone finds a way to store images or sounds in a cloud variable with this, then your privacy is gone.

Keep it simple, and just add a ‘show camera on background’ option.

Thanks for letting monstermash3 edit the post to only include one suggestion instead of closing the topic! (The last time a mod did the later on a page that I was on, it was between when I had started writing a reply and when I hit the “Submit” button, so if the original poster ever creates a separate topic for that, I'll have to write the post all over again because the first time, I spent all that time for nothing.)
