Interviews
Interview with ZLGames
Monkey_Legend: How did you find scratch?
ZLGames: I can't actually remember how I first found Scratch, it was a while ago. I do remember this though: When I first joined, I thought the only thing on Scratch you could do was make projects. I didn't know about the forums, commenting, or studios. Eventually, this got boring so I decided to leave Scratch. Later, a friend introduced me back to Scratch and told me about all the things I was missing.
Monkey_Legend: What is your favourite thing about scratch?
ZLGames: Hmm… That is really hard to decide. Everything on Scratch is so wonderful, but I'd probably have to say the community. Every day, I get encouragement and compliments, and it always just brightens my day.
Monkey_Legend: What is your favorite priject that you have made?
ZLGames: I'm not really sure. I make a lot of different kinds of projects, so I'm not sure which one I like best. Some of my favorites are Toasty Dodge (https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/103564952/ ), How to Remix a Project (https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/117659734/ ), and Chanukah (https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/131851263/ ).![]()
Monkey_Legend: Why did you choose the name ZLgames?
ZLGames: I'm not really sure.I know the “Games” part was because I planned on only making games on this account, but I can't really remember.

Interview with banana439monkey
Monkey_Legend: How did you find and get into scratch?
banana439monkey: I got into programming and scratch through a code club. I found scratch when it was installed on the school
Monkey_Legend: What is your favourite thing about scratch?
banana439monkey: It's the simplicity and the friendly community. On some like youtube, you daren't make a video in case someone says something mean. Here you can be sure no one says anything mean
Monkey_Legend: Do you have any advice for new scratchers?
banana439monkey: Firstly, to check out @welcomingcommittee and secondly there are loads of tutorials out there. Check them out. One was made by @Ellesong https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/50605212/
Interview with Sigton
Monkey_Legend: How did you find scratch?
Sigton: We did it at School once, and I really got into it and made an account. At first I didn't use it much, but then when I started high school I became really active.
Monkey_Legend: Whats your favourite thing about scratch?
Sigton: The community; how it such a pleasent, collaborative environment for anyone to jump right into. I truly think it's one of the nicest corners of the internet.
Monkey_Legend What is your scratch history in one summary?
Sigton: I started out making some large projects myself, most of which went unfinished. Then I discovered the forums; where I started collaborating with others to again make large projects. I made some good projects, and got my first front page. Then I found shops and joined my first; Tropical Waves. At the time one of the largest and most prosperous shops. After a month or so I began to join more shops, and eventually made my own. My shop grew quickly, soon becoming one of the largest around after MTBHS went inactive activity in my shop boomed, and we soon rose to largest shop on Scratch. Now we're 800 pages ahead of the next largest shop. Recently, I've become less active on the forums and going back to making projects and also moving onto other languages. Scratch has become too basic for me now, so I'm seeking challenges elsewhere. Who knows what the future holds.
Monkey_Legend: Why did you choose the name ‘Sigton’?
Sigton: I'd been using it as my username on various sites for a while; it's just my general username. If you see a Sigton, it'll most likely be me. The first thing I used it for was Clash Of Clans, though I don't play it anymore the legacy stands.
Monkey_Legend: Whats your favourite project of yours that you have made?
Sigton: My favourite isn't actually finished yetMy new game coming out in a few weeks hopefully, Stealth, is by a long way my best project. If I was to choose one y'all can play, however, I'd probably go with Legend Rush. Not only was it my most successful, but it's the closest to my heart as my friends and I have been working on the ideas behind that game for the last 7 years or so. Maybe one day I'll make the full game that you can pay for…
Monkey_Legend: What is your favourite project that someone else has made?
Sigton: One of my favourite projects by another user is Sir Shield by @JamesOuO. I've always been a huge fan of platformers; I really enjoy both making and playing them. Sir Shield is a great example of a complete, professional platformer that I've taken inspiration from for many of my games (Legend Rush primarily).
Interview with jokebookservice1
Monkey_Legend: How did you find scratch?
Jokebookservice1: Well, I was at a coding club where they were teaching programming. At the time I had been looking at tutorials about coding in VB - so I thought this was up my street. However, after the first few classes started, I figured everything else out by myself. I was now better than the teacher, who had to look at a textbook to teach us everything.
Monkey_Legend: What is your scratch history in a summary?
Jokebookservice1: I joined 3 years ago, and I didn't know the blocks. I quickly learned, and once I understood everything I scratched for ages without knowing the forums existed. I started out making shy posts explaining things in the Help with Scripts forum. Later, a scratcher inspired me- and now I try my best to make mature long posts, and advanced projects. Recently, I have engaged a lot more with @griffpatch - helping with his website (he has neither accepted nor rejected the changes yet) and remixing his Text Adventure Game - which added an autocomplete feature - he commented “Clever!” on it - I later unshared it. However, the process of making the project was extremely fun. I encourage people to *learn* coding - not *code* on Scratch. Here, I asked questions to griffpatch and if I was lucky he'd reply and explain his code. I now understand quite a few things in Scratch programming a lot better. So what I want is for people to learn what every block does and how to make a fun project with it. This is why I have been working on pen so hard lately, I want to improve my skills there. One day, when I learn and understand trigonometry fully, I want to make a 3D game. And I don't wish to waste time by not mastering 2D games first. So today I am working on a score engine rendered with pen using special types of curves. I have really learnt a lot from Scratch.
Monkey_Legend: Why did you choose the name ‘jokebookservice1’?
Jokebookservice1: I first created the account ‘jokebookservice’ - because a friend and I wanted to make a joke book service - and market it on Scratch. However, they started plagiarising another joke book - and I was certainly displeased with this. I was 10 or 11 but I cared about copyright - and while I wanted to make Scratch projects marketing this free service to our classmates, I instead didn't. I deleted the account at one point accidentally - soon after I created it. And since I could not register it again, I registered ‘jokebookservice1’ instead and used it exclusively by myself.
Monkey_Legend: What is your favourite project that you have ever made?
jokebookservice1: Ah, that is a tough one. Possibly my 3D raycaster with enemies - https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/107048797/
Monkey_Legend: What is your favourite project someone else has made?
Jokebookservice1: That is hard. Wow. The community makes such amazing projects- yet choosing just one is so difficult. However, I'd like to say that I found @MegaApuTurkUltra's Cloudy McCloudFace project impressive - letting users easily make Cloud games - and accounting for Scratch's quirks, like HTTP fallback. Truly impressed at the simplicity of the API.
Monkey_Legend: What is your favourite thing about scratch?
Jokebookservice1: The amount of kid friendliness the community and site has achieved - allowing kids to express their feelings and be creative - while coding. Coding used to be something for older teens - now - kids are learning to *make* games; and spend less time *playing* them.
