I think that it should notify you when someone stops following you.

How would you feel if you just joined Scratch, and you got your first follower, and all of a sudden you got a message. It told you that your first follower unfollowed you. You would either have one of 3 reactions.
1) Quit Scratch
Nobody likes you, so you might not as well try.
2) Start yelling at that Scratcher on their profile.
"WHY'D YOU UNFOLLOW ME???!!!! I HATE YOU!!!!
3) Not do anything and just keep swimmin' Scratchin'.
Meh, it's only one person, right?

Well it's kinda negative… If some people got that message that someone unfollowed it would make them feel sad or upset most likely…

“My projects aren't good and they unfollowed :c”

"WHY DID THEY UNFOLLOW???? >:0

“if i was good at scratch they would still be following me. guess i'll leave then…”

and it would discourage them from making more projects…
If you unfollowed someone you wouldn't exactly want them to know “hey I unfollowed you”
If you want to know who unfollows though, you could use this.

Oh.
I got my first follower about 3 months after i started.

I don't really agree, since it might be depressing to see when people decide to unfollow you… :p

Anyways as the suggestion concerns, I'm with everyone else here:

-Does anything good come out of this?
-Motivating users to stay is best.

Some people practice something known as a follow bump this might get a bit annoying if you have a large amount of people bumping you up in their follow bar.

Okay. I get it now. I didn't think about that at first.
