Alter the 3.0's style
Read the WHOLE post before responding! I'm sick of people saying “No support, this is too opinion based and has no meaning to Scratch”!
Now, this suggestion may seem opinion based, and sure, it is, but I still have some sources for this.
I bet you've all seen 3.0 and half of you have seen my posts about how Flash is not dead and that you can't really make a Flash emulator in HTML5, but I'm here to talk about the style, which is most important in a way I'll explain later.
I've noticed that Scratch has a reputation on other sites (Newgrounds, for example) that doesn't really fit well with Scratch's goal. Scratch's colorful blocks are considered too childish or “basic” for a real coding language, and for some, it's true it wasn't made for giant games, but it definitely isn't “Childish”. Scratch can get very complicated, and limits are only getting looser.
Not only does this happen for 2.0, but it'll be much worse for 3.0, when hear me out, and I'm not lying…
They're using Scratch Jr. blocks!
Like, how the…?
I understand Scratch is for all ages, but replicating the most complex scripts fails to look anything like hard work and effort! I only imagine this style is worse for Scratch, and will make it laughable, but something's even bothering me a little more, no matter how small…
“What will our backpack look like now?”
I'm a big backpack user, so this is annoying to me. If Scratch 3.0 comes out in early 2017 like this, I'm leaving Scratch in early 2017 like this!
Now, support/non-support has had a lot of non-support, but this is kinda opinion based, so I think this suggestion would benefit from this.

Alter the 3.0's style
I'm actually quite fond of the new design, it's clean-looking, not quite as pixel-y as the current design. I do see what you mean, though, it does make it look a bit childish. However, they aren't trying to switch it to only scratch junior blocks, just incorporate them so you can use either.
I agree another design might be better, but what would you suggest? I do like the color-coding, it makes it easy to find everything.

They're just adding the new blocks, they're still gonna keep the old style of blocks.
And Scratch is supposed to be for children.

I understand what you're siding with, it looks a bit more childish but I kind of like the new simplicity look of Scratch 3.0. Perhaps an option to alter themes?

It's probably not the final design… and even if it was, it would be easy to modify since it's written in HTML5.
Personally I'm not really a fan of the size of the blocks because they're so big and awkward but that's just me. If they are going to make the Event blocks yellow and the control blocks orange, I can see myself getting mixed up in the future. :') (also, this is probably what users in 1.4 thought when they saw 2.0
)

I do oppose the introduction of fatter blocks, it would take up more space, and screen size is limited on my 11" laptop.

Scratch is for kids, not adults and teens. ( well it can be, but kids must have a chance to make more better projects with easier scripts??? )
Guess what this is:

Be respectful.
When sharing projects or posting comments, remember that people of many different ages and backgrounds will see what you’ve shared.

If you really hate it that much.. https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/220559/
If people are going to judge my program complexity based on the colors and sizes of the blocks that make it over the result of the program or the actual code, I honestly won't care about that opinion – and I'd probably explain that it's the code and result that matters, not the shapes or sizes of the blocks
(PS – yes, I'm a big [sometimes self-created] style-guide follower, but with Scratch it doesn't really apply as much, because at the end of the day no matter what I do I'll have a script that looks generally the same as all other scripts [of a similar complexity].)

If you're so worried about people judging your work over some color and design.
If I were you I'd just omit their opinion since it really isn't positive
What you said at the very top of the post holds true though, it is opinionated, and a bit paranoid.
I think you should worry less about how it looks and care for the code, because what I've seen the cleaner style is a lot better.

No support, this post is too opinionated and has no effect on Scratch (jk)
But honestly though, the only problem you seem to have is the fact that they're introducing Scratch Jr. Blocks. Well, you don't have to use them. You can still use the old style of blocks.
Honestly, if people are judging your work based on colors and shapes, those are not people worth listening to.

It's very likely that we will be able to zoom out in the editor so the large blocks shouldn't be that big of a problem. I also like the new style of blocks they're going for.

I personally like the lay out they have so far, but if an admin was reading this, I would reccomend keeping the background colors the same:

They don't use Scratch Jr blocks, that's just a horizontal mode. There is still a vertical mode, which is the main interface. Please edit that part out.

No. I'm saying that even if their opinions don't really matter, it still effects the website. And this is about Scratch Jr. style, not the vertical, although I still think they are larger than 2.0.

I agree; the horizontal blocks need to not have hard-to-decipher pictures. However, the shapes of the blocks are 100% spot on.

And this is about Scratch Jr. style, not the vertical, although I still think they are larger than 2.0.Maybe you should make that clear in the OP. The reason that the ST is including the Scratch Jr. style is because it works better for younger kids and on smaller screens. If you don't like it, don't use that style.
