On scratch, you may delete an account that is no longer desired, and that is a good thing to have available on the site. However, I think that a deactivated account should have some sort of symbol next to their usernames on previous comments that were made to indicate that the account has been deactivated so this prevents confusion.

A notice telling users if an account has been deleted would be a good feature. It could attract spammy comments, but it can also prevent a lot of confusion.

that is true, Thanks for your input! A notice telling users if an account has been deleted would be a good feature. It could attract spammy comments, but it can also prevent a lot of confusion.

Support. I have several previous accounts that I need to deactivate because I check every week for messages.

A little notification saying “this account has been deleted – they won't get a notification from your reply” might be nice, too!
EDIT: “this comment” -> “your reply”

But couldn't someone just delete their account if they didn't want it anymore? I don't see how this would help.

I'm pretty sure that once an account is “deactivated” it's deleted immediately. For instance, check out my old account . I deactivated it once I got this account back from forgetting my password.

The suggestion here is for indication that an account has been deleted, not for the option to deactivate accounts. But couldn't someone just delete their account if they didn't want it anymore? I don't see how this would help.

This is a really good point! What if I don't want to tell everyone I've left Scratch? Some people don't want others to know why or when they've left, for privacy reasons. The suggestion here is for indication that an account has been deleted, not for the option to deactivate accounts. Then don't delete your account. What if I don't want to tell everyone I've left Scratch?
If you do delete your account, now: people respond to one of your comments or comment on one of your projects. Later on they wonder "why aren't they [you!] responding?" ..and at some point or another they click on your profile and find out your account has been deleted/deactivated.
If you do delete your account, with this suggestion implemented: people realize your account's been deleted right away and will probably avoid wasting their time by directing a comment towards you, since you aren't using the site any more.
If you don't delete your account, with or without this suggestion implemented: you aren't affected by this suggestion!

However, yeah, this suggestion will probably make it easier to realize when someone left/had their account deactivated.

Instead of bombarding users with “Oh sorry this user has a de-activated account” message why not have a notice on their profile page that can be “x”-ed out and says:
"This user has decided to deactivate their account. They will not get any messages. On their profile there could also be a symbol to signify them having deactivated.

I was thinking like what happens on dA. where the name would be stricken through, and possibly greyed. for instance, If i deleted, my username would show up as -̶L̶e̶a̶f̶y̶-̶ instead of -Leafy- In my comments. That would be odd and weird if it did…I was thinking like what happens on dA. where the name would be stricken through, and possibly greyed. for instance, If i deleted, my username would show up as -̶L̶e̶a̶f̶y̶-̶ instead of -Leafy- In my comments. I was thinking more of a symbol like:

It may look weird, but I think it'd stand out more. For instance, scratch team has a * after their usernames, and that isn't quite noticeable at 1st glance. Some Scratchers, especially those 10 and under, may have trouble noticing that symbol.

Thinking about it maybe just greying out their username or making profile links red would work too

-100% support. Scratch isn't a social media website, and some people don't want others to know they've left. There's a thing called privacy.
Sorry if I'm sounding harsh, I'm not having a good day today.

If you don't want someone to know you've left, then simply don't delete your account. let me quote Liam 48D, who phrased it very well. -100% support. Scratch isn't a social media website, and some people don't want others to know they've left. There's a thing called privacy.
