What was the first ever project?
Indeed on can see that this is the 104 th project.
But the 643 and 644 have been made on Feb 2007 (but shared on march)
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/643/
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/644/
At that time there was no online editor but just an off-line editor.
So you can have weeks before sharing the project.
This is one case of “the slowest, the first”

What was the first ever project?
It's not the oldest, just the first shared in the new site.Weekend, by retired Scratch Team member andresmh. It is the oldest project but not the first.
Yes, this is the new new site, 1.x was the new site, and this is the very first scratch website.

The first 103 projects were supposed “Test Projects.” The first user used to be someone with a really long name (like wxp5kfhskdgksgjdkejr), but you could find this user via their friends list. Their account was disabled, but you could see he was the first user. Scratch 2.0 doesn't let you do that anymore, but it is still cool.

I believe the first project was “Liv Devil and Angel” according to way back machine.
Interesting fact: The first Sonic project was “3 hedgehogs at Circuit City”, which was also the first fan project! Sonic must be way fast!

I'm wondering the same thing. By the way, do you think even 1 of the test projects exist anymore? The first 103 projects were supposed “Test Projects.” The first user used to be someone with a really long name (like wxp5kfhskdgksgjdkejr), but you could find this user via their friends list. What was the first ever project?
And this is just the shared projects. According to the thing that shows up when you open up Scratch, there are almost 19 million projects on Scratch. Shared projects, that is. Trust me, go to one of your newer projects and the URL for it will very likely have a number much higher than 19 million. For example, my first project, which I made on my friend's account before I had an account of my own, was shared on March 29, 2015. But according to the URL, it was around the 53 millionth project. Sooooooo…
Unfortunately, I have Scratch 2.0, so I can't do a lot of the older stuff.
