4/3/13: Updates to the website, editor
I've been ignored about this subject several times. Maybe you guys know about this already and don't want to talk about it but this is an open beta so the point is to get feedback so I'm trying to help out by addressing problems. Anyway, I've had several questions and concerns about this newest update so I'm wondering if you could help me by answering them. Maybe the Scratch Team wasn't aware of some of these problems already so this is greatly helping.
A) Lightnin said “What the Community is Loving / Remixing now selects projects that have received the most loves / remixes in the past 7 days, and displays in random order.” in the update but later told me that projects will show up in the past 6 months. Which is it?
B) Lightnin also said that there are rules against repeats of projects which I see partially work because I can't get more than one project on the front page. Meanwhile, MZproductions has had 3 projects on the front page. I know this is still beta so some things are still broken but I've already said this and I got no response.
C) Projects are only allowed to be up for 7 days, right? Or are they allowed to be on the front page for 6 months? There are some projects that have definitely been up for more than 7 days now and I know that because I saw those projects up for a week before this update and they're still up.
Thanks,
JJROCKER

A) It is that projects can be shown on the front page for a maximum of 7 days but those 7 days can be any within the first 6 months of their release.
B) Pretty sure that is a glitch
C) They are meant to be on for 7 days max so that is a glitch

I guess the Scratch Team wants the site broken for some reason. Now they made it so I can't be on the front page at all but everyone else still can.

Woah, ease up there!
To answer your questions:
1. The projects with highest number of love-it's *generated* in the past 7 days get on the loved row (and remixed works about the same.)
So basically, out of every love-it clicked since last week, same time, get the 20 projects that had the most by that measure, and display them in random order. Does that make sense?
2. Time limit: All projects shared within the last 6 months are eligible. Unless…
3. They've already been on the homepage (in loved / remixed rows) for seven days.
Does that make sense?
Regarding 3 projects by the same person - that should be possible, but only for a very short period of time (and only because the project row caches update at slightly different times.) Mind you: this only applies to the global rows. The customized rows: project by my friends, etc. don't count (because it's only you seeing them up there - not everyone.)

Actually, I'm pretty sure the front page is completely broken. MZProductions has 3 projects on the front page right now in top viewed. Also, some of these projects have definitely been on for more than a week. Or are you allowed to have your project on the front page for 6 months?
Hmm.. there's no top viewed…. Did you mean loved?
Also, it's gonna take a little while for things to find equilibrium, since we only introduced the change (and started counting / limiting time on the homepage) last Wednesday. So some of the old favorites may take another tour (it's very hard to prevent that retroactively, since we weren't recording what was on the homepage in the past.)

I'm still wondering why one of my two newest projects aren't up there. They have more than some of the others.
Anyway, there were still some projects that were on for more than 7 days. The three by MZ have been there for longer than a week and I know that because my tag game was on there for a while too.

I see you added my idea for the paint editor to draw only vertical and horizontal lines, nice
and thanks!
A Question to the Scratch Team: Do you think you could make it less freeze when you press keys in a project, where evrything runs without screen refreshes? It's a common bug, which crashes many 3D games or complex projects

My game cloud pong was also top loved. Then it disappeared and then the new update came out. Since the update it's there again. The 7 days start after the update day! So Tommorow 7 days are over and many projects will disappear.
To the bug, that no of your projects appear there:
I had it months ago, too.
Lightnin, do you remember my project Planet Defense? It had enough love it's, too, but it didn't appeared there, so you and Paddle2See favorited it to show it more people.
JJROCKER, Have you added Project Tags to these 3 projects?
On my project, which didn't appeared i added more than 3 tags, but all except 3 disappeared and looked buggy. I added only to this one tags and it and only this project didn't appeared

I personally liked the top viewed/loved the way it was. But I thought you would have them in order based on the ratio of loves/hours. That way, a project that got 5 loves in 10 hours would be the same on the list as a project that got 12 loves in 24 hours. Sure, you could tweak the ratio, maybe projects that have a ratio of 3/5 get on the FP. But that's just my idea.

No problem! I know it's kinda confusing - that's a strike against the current implementation actually. It's hard to explain (also because the “custom rows” - aren't indicated as custom in the current design.)
As someone else pointed out, we only started counting days on the homepage when we released the code last week - so if stuff was on there before, the code won't know about it.
However, if the love-its applied to your project were done more than a week ago, they won't help you get on the homepage. So they could have more love-its total than other homepaged projects, but it won't help it get on the homepage.
If you think that's not the case - link me to your project and I'll try to see if there's a bug!

No, the opposide. All my projects without tags appeared with enough love its on the front page. The project where i added tags never appeared on the front page, even when it got so many love it's that i would be top loved.
Why it is anyway too late?

My 2 projects that were supposed to be on didn't have tags. I just put tags on one because I thought you meant that I was supposed to.
It's too late because it has already been almost a week and it should've been on this entire time.

Tags have nothing to do with the homepage logic. There's no need for tags. JJROCKER - what are the projects that you feel should've been homepaged? (i.e. have enough love-its generated in the past 7 days that they should appear on “What the community is loving?”)
