Those are all really neat!! I find Iyami kinda hard to like bc ive only watched -san, but ill be sure to check -kun out too!
On tumblr, there's a zine for fans of Karamatsu (karamatsu is very,,,, unique, in -san, they all are), and I made a piece for that,, i do quite a lot of -san drawings.
I've heard his -San incarnation is very narcissistic and egocentric so I can understand why you don't like a character like that. In -kun, he's more of a goofy conman who just wants profits and ends up being more of a victim than those he's swindling.
In -san, he starts out as being the bad guy, but the writers make an effort to make him seem more likeable in later episodes. The damage is already done though- Iyami is unlikeable at this point in the show.

Wish I could watch -kun but it isn't subbed in English, only subbed in Spanish at the moment. I think Iyami is still a good guy deep within, he's just super weird in -san and it covers up his likable parts. And Karamatsu is my baby! Buraza!
There's a user on YouTube whose username is Iyami Zansu who has uploaded several 60s and 80s kun episodes with English subs (turn on closed captioning for the subs)

I wrote fan dubs for three of the songs from Osomatsu-kun! Please tell me what you think!
1966 ED 1
Osomatsu, Karamatsu, Jyushimatsu, Ichimatsu, Choromatsu, Todomatsu
Everybody, let's go!
When all six of us are together, we can do anything we wish
Because we're the happiest
SEXTUPLETS!
(SHEE!)
We study six times and again!
Our marks total up to 600!
He's everybody's good friend
Osomatsu-kun!
Even though I am only one,
I can still do what I want
Because I'm the happiest
CHIBITA!
(SHEE!)
I see six oden and I eat them all up
I see six brothers and I beat them all up!
He's everybody's good friend
Osomatsu-kun!
(SHEE!)

1988 OP
Boys and girls, it's time for the Osomatsu-kun show!
Sheeeeeee!
This is the story of Mr. Iyami
Miserable and lonely and jobless was he
He was unhappy with himself and of the way he lived
He wore a fake smile and that's how he lived.
One night, on his usual walk home,
He caught an eyeful of the distant city.
“I'll go live there… I'll go live there… business is surely booming!”
So he went off to live in Japan!
Causing mischief with Chibita in Japan!
And the two of them, doing awful deeds
Plotting, scheming, swindling, stealing
Plotting, scheming, swindling, stealing
AH~ Osomatsu!

1988 ED
Osomatsu gives his pants to Karamatsu and even if
Choromatsu lent his shoes to Ichimatsu and even if
Todomatsu drew eyebrows onto Jyushimatsu's face
You can still tell…
Shee!
That the six of them are identical!
Dayo~n dayo~n that's just how they are
Dayo~n dayo~n that's just how they are
If you're looking close enough this world is full of such mystery!
Osomatsu ondo de yoyoinoyoi

Haha, they're all good. What's with the “ondo de yoyoi no yoi” stuff? XD
It's a traditional style of music called an ondo, which is played during traditional Japanese festivals.

Have you guys heard of these? And yes, they're official! You can look them up! “Osomatsu-kun Grows Up” from 1965 and 1993, respectively! That's a long time before the adult matsus got their own series, and they grew up to be quite different too! This is so cool!

We do. In the 1965 one, they seem to be wearing name tags, and the 1993 one was actually an ad campaign and they actually have their own little stories to them. You can look it up if you want to read more about it!

When I get time, I will! it'll be interesting to see the interpretations of them that don't have anything to do with -San. I expect them to be very different.

Am I the only one who loves Chibita? The only reason he's so mean to the sextuplets is because when he first debuted, he just got bonked on the head by one of them for literally no reason. You could say that's a dumb thing to hold a grudge over, but still, they bullied him quite a lot. I'm pretty sure Chibita doesn't have a mom, and his dad is busy working the oden shop all day. His only friend, pretty much, is Iyami, and yes, while he does help Iyami with his get-rich-quick schemes, he's just trying to support the only person who ever pays positive attention to him. Just watch episodes 4 and 5 of the 80s anime and you'll get why I feel so bad for him.

They are indeed older than the -San versions. It's possible they even run on the same timeline. I'd say the 1965 one is where they're their oldest. I mean, even Chibita has a little mustache and a cigar! In fact, in that one, the brothers are all pharmacists trying to make an anti-aging serum!

in -san, chibita tells osomatsu why he hated them so much. he said it was because he never had brothers, he was an only child, and that he was lonely. he was jealous of what they had.

Today on Cool Things from Osomatsu-kun History…*fanfare!*
Nintendo was first founded 1889. That's a long time before video games came to exist. What did they do back then? Make playing cards, board games, and small toys.
In 1966, they acquired the license for Osomatsu-kun and made it into a board game. How awesome is this?

In the link, it shows. The gameplay is very basic: The spinner determines how many spaces to move, and many spaces have numbers. They correspond to a body part of Iyami shown at the bottom of the board, and when you land on the number, you collect the corresponding part. The first player to complete Iyami wins.

Can I still buy this somewhere? Really, I wanna know. I wanna buy it right now, right this second. That looks so amazing.
From my short looking around, I don't think so. Vintage Osomatsu-kun stuff is sought after as collectors' items. I'd snatch it up if I could if it ever went up for online auction. There's a lot of cool vintage Osomatsu-kun goods out there that I want to get my hands on and collect.
