I have one question: is it not possible to use procedures/ functions?

Hi everyone.

I'm posting on behalf of my young son who has just started with Scratch today.

He has been exploring Windows XP on an old laptop for some time, and makes landscapes for his own version of Minecraft using excel. I thought it was finally time for him to start doing ‘proper’ programming.

I have some experience with various programming languages over the years, starting with I think Basic and C+ in school (it was that long ago I don't even remember what we were using lol) and then in my late teens I used to program with hyperScript and HyperCard on an old Mac Classic II. I remember it being so amazingly unreal (mid ‘90s). Then in mid ’00s I learnt to hand code html and then using basic php to create website templates.

Learning to code is such a great learning tool, helps develop so many skills, language, mathematics, problem solving, while fostering creativity.

I was more than happy for him to get started, why not do all that while doing something you love?

Yes, Scratch is designed for age 9-12, however, peoples for all ages have contributed. You could also checked Scratch Wiki for references.

If you use

if <(timer) = [100]> then
    
end

then you can stop the game when it reaches 100 seconds! Hope I helped!

And DON'T JUDGE BECAUSE I'M A NEW SCRATCHER. I HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH CODE.

Yes, it is possible if you use the repeat loops under the control tab:

when [space v] key pressed
repeat until <(???) = [5]>
    
move (10) steps
end
