Scratch shouldn't be promoting any tv shows or fandoms.

Powerpuff Girls.

Ring a bell?
Yes, but I don't agree with what the ST did.

1. Just don't join fandoms and openly discuss them, fandoms are terrible and ruin communites, I'm shocked there isn't more peaceful systems in place. I really need to say this:

Scratch needs to full on moderate fandoms on Scratch and if the topics cannot handle themselves close them.

Fandoms are honestly ruining a lot of Scratcher's experiences.

2. Let's not promote fandoms at all.

Well you have an unpopular opinion here. Most people I know say that fandoms are fun to participate in. You don't need to talk to other people to be in a fandom! You can make fanart, make excellent games like this, and so many other things. It really depends on the fandom. Joining a fandom is basically watching a TV show, reading a book, or playing a game and saying you like it. You think people should be restricted on this? To me, and to everybody who is a fan of something, it's a nice thing to do to get involved with part of a fandom that has the same interests you like.

As all members of the Scratch Team say, the Scratch motto is imagine, program, share.. If you limit how people can imagine things, then that includes getting rid of fandoms.

fandoms are terrible and ruin communites, I'm shocked there isn't more peaceful systems in place. I really need to say this:

This is all biased information. Where are your examples of how fandoms can ruin Scratch?
If the Doctor Who fandom didn't exist on here then I might as well have nothing to do on Scratch and leave here in the next few months. Same thing with other people from different fandoms too.

I'm sorry, but imo, I don't care about this. I guess I was annoyed a little with tPPG but I only barely thought of doing gumball.
I care even less because I don't have cable
I was a little bit disgruntled when I saw that Scratch was promoting some and not others (especially since it's geared towards the younger audience) and Scratch is for all ages. I think it was done because even though Scratch is for all ages, most of the people on this site are on the younger side of the spectrum. I still was not happy, though: First of all, not everyone watches this shows. Don't go firing at me, because I know that most people watch TV, but some don't very much and a few, like me, don't really at all. I think that Scratch should be promoting their little characters (in my opinion, the Scratch Cat overshadows the others too much) and they should have their own little story just for being the mascots of Scratch.
I like your point.

I know I had a last topic that got rained down on a lot of people who weren't in my fandom and I received tons of negative reactions for it.
Nobody has to be in a fandom to criticize an idea. I think the reason the last topic didn't go so well is because people wanted to discuss other things than your particular interest that they also thought should be promoted, while you had made the topic to discuss promotion of your particular interests. This obviously led to conflict as no party clearly stated what they wanted to discuss.

As it is, I don't really understand the suggestion - how would Scratch be marketed to an older audience? As far as I know, the only reason older people wouldn't want to use Scratch is because of it's cartoony look, but that is a necessary part of it and so cannot be changed. I guess maybe featuring the Powerpuff Girls on the homepage could have turned some people away from the site, but it would be pretty easy to just make that not appear for logged out users, and that would basically solve that problem.

Is there anything else really that could be changed to market Scratch to an older audience? Promoting media is not really the right way to go, in my opinion, as that draws away from the actual focus of Scratch - programming. I think the main highlight of Scratch marketing is that it is a programming language, and in my opinion promotional things only draw away by causing too high of an association between Scratch and whatever media it is attached to. I think this because, for example, when a project is supposed to be based on a certain media, I would imagine that people naturally feel that Scratch is more limited, as now they have this idea that it is meant to do this one thing for this one promotional campaign. Even if this is just subconscious, I would not be surprised if it did have an effect on how people learn and use Scratch.

The Doctor Who fandom would be a good example but all of the non whovians know nothing about it and judge it easily.
Not to get in an argument, but I simply think that this is unfair - of course people not in a fandom will be inclined to believe said fandom is bad because that is a natural trait of fandoms. I also don't think that people were really judging the fandom - I think it is more likely they were judging the show, which in some instances is not appropriate for Scratch.

Hmm, I think they were focusing on the much more poorly discussed fandoms. As it's a very popular sight to see fandoms over power communities.

I think we shouldn't be promoting any fandom of any type and instead keeping fandoms at greatest peace.

My bias is towards the pacifist, I think MathlyCat is just stressed over how much he has seen .-. I don't know…

Maybe watch the “Are Fandoms Bad?” video on YouTube before making an opinion about it.
