If you are reading this, I assume that you are new to the website and need a little run-down of what it is, and that is completely fine!
So, what is Scratch?
Scratch is a website made by students at MIT to help expand creativity and help young kids grasp the idea of coding. This website is not completely targeted to this younger audience, though, and can be used to channel all of your creativity to make amazing projects. These projects are open to everyone to see, play and enjoy.
How do you make projects?
Making projects is fairly simple. First, click create and you will be sent to the Project Editor. This is where the magic happens.The big, black box towards the middle of the screen to the left is where your game is. To the right of that, are multiple blocks that you can attach in an organized manner to create ‘Scripts’ which will make your game go. There are multiple different blocks to do everything that you need. But, unlike other websites, the blocks are much broader, making it fun, interesting, and challenging. But, if you aren't a coder, that's okay! You can also make animations, drawings, stories, and much more!
Coming Together
Scratch is in no way a secluded website where it is just you. You can view other people's projects, comment on them, make collaborations, and do so much more together. There is a Scratch Wikipedia that has been made possible my hundreds of Scratchers and a place to discuss. In the discussion area, you can help others with scripts, advertise your games, and most importantly can make games with each other. Scratch has a very welcoming, helpful community that you can connect with easily.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Scratch is a great website that allows you to use your brain, but also have a lot of fun. It is a great way to channel your creativity in a fun, free way. The environment is kind and easy to get into, and you will be accepted into it no matter who you are, how old you are, your race, your gender, or you religion. You can do whatever you want, from games to animations. And that's what I think makes Scratch special, a great environment that lets you expand your creativity.

If you've ever been on the internet, you are probably suspicious of how appropriate websites are. Well, do not worry, for this website is designed to be appropriate for all ages! If you see something inappropriate, you can flag it. You won't be able to see the project again, and the Scratch Team will look at the project to verify if it follows the community guidelines (see @https://scratch.mit.edu/community_guidelines/).
