I would love to hear from those in the discussion what games you find “hypnotizing” or those which you feel put you into a “trance”. The reason I am asking here in Scratch is that I have been hypnotizing people for the last 24 years I have guided over 15,000 people into hypnosis now and I have found you can go into a hypnotic state in ways you wouldn't expect and my 9 year old and 11 year old are living proof! It seems as though the games crossyroad and minecraft seem especially entrancing to them .

I would love to hear from others!

By “hypnotizing”, do you mean actually hypnotizing and making someone do something or hypnotizing as in it makes the player play the game a lot?

Well OK thank you and very bright for asking to define hypnosis.

When I posted I thought that question might come up. I think if we can agree this is a good definition of hypnosis then its not making someone do something, but rather become so engrossed in the game that you become unaware, and maybe not completely unaware, but unaware to some significant degree of other things around you. It happens to some people when reading a book or watching a TV program, but I notice it the most in my kids when they are playing a game on-screen.

The graphics are so beautiful that you just want to waste your time and admire the landscape instead to smashing robots and reaching the goal ring.

I'm personally hypnotized by FM16 (Football Manager 2016). It's a game where you control a team but you don't get to control all of it - there's an assistant manager, coaches, scouts, chairman, sometimes a director of football. You just decide the tactics, the type of training, the signings and the team selections. Before I know it, 2 hours have past.

Yes time distortion is a very common hypnotic phenomenon. You can read more about what hypnosis is here

games like Ratchet & Clank, Sonic and other 3D adventure games do a good job of this because they're teaching players all the gimmicks and abilitues of characters in these totally different worlds, while also letting you discover the whole new worlds. after turning off the game system once playing those types of games, a moment passes before really kinda getting in the groove of real life again
