I don't listen to a lot of heavy metal, but I do acknowledge how awesome a genre it is.

My favorite metal band is Boris mainly for their versatility. They can jump from fast-paced to incredibly slow within the same song. My favorite album from them is Pink although a few parts in the second half go on for way longer than they need to. Their best song is undoubtedly “Just Abandoned Myself”, an 18 minute epic that ends in one amazing wall of sound.

I'm honestly not much of a fan of the earlier “classic” style of metal besides the aforementioned Black Sabbath and Metallica. I prefer slower styles of metal like doom and sludge.

Anyone heard of Sabaton? Or Powerwolf? I find I prefer powermetal, mainly Sabaton. They do songs about historical stuff. For instance, if you exclude the north africa campaign, you can construct a history of the european theater of world war II with sabaton songs. They've got the invasion of poland(40:1), Belgium(resist and bite), france(ghost division), the battle of britain(aces in exile), the invasion of greece(coat of arms), the battle of stalingrad(stalingrad), the all female russian night bomber regiment 588(night witches), the battle of kursk(biggest tank battle in history. song: Panzerkampf), allied landings on anzio(To hell and back), advance to Rome(Union, or the slopes of saint benedict), the allied bombing campaign(firestorm), the russian and polish partisans(Unbreakable), D-Day(Primo Victoria), the battle of berlin(Attero Dominatus), and the german units that broke through the surrounding russians to get civilians to safety(hearts of iron). Oh, and also the holocaust(the final solution). There are a few songs that I didn't list because I don't remember them or what they're about. They only have like 2 for the pacific theater(midway, about midway, and nuclear fire, about us nuking hiroshima and nagasaki). They have like…I think two for WWI(Gallipoli, about the disaster that was the gallipoli campaign, and The Price Of A Mile, about the battle of Passchendaele, where 700,000 men died to gain six miles of ground). Plus like at least one song about pretty much every major conflict.

I generally don't listen to metal, but during my Undertale phase I really liked Ace Waters and RichaadEB's covers of Megalovania (Nihilist ft. Thunderscott) and Hopes and Dreams/Save the World (Catharsis). I haven't listened to those in a while, but right now the only metal song I listen to often is Through the Fire and Flames by DragonForce.

EDIT: I also listen to One by Metallica on occasion if that counts.

I really like heavy metal. My favorite band is Metallica and my favorite song of their's is Don't Tread on Me.

My cousin likes heavy metal. He's also a “Djent” artist.

I apologize in advance for a reply from somebody who actually does not like Heavy Metal at all
But once somebody told me they listen to every genre other than metal and opera
Why is it that the only genres people don't listen to are the least tuneful and least musical and then the most tuneful and most musical
It's like they're saying "I want a melody and actual nuance in my music, just please not too much"
I think people like all kinds of things but to like everything in the middle and just not the extremes is a little bit funny to me for some reason

I like some metal music. I think I'm slowly getting into old school death metal (the bands from the late 80s/early 90s). My favorite metal band is Death, one of the pioneers of death metal, and an icon of the underground extreme metal world. My favorite Death album is their final one, The Sound of Perseverance. I'm more of a punk rock fan.
