(Please note: this was first called the Wreck-It Ralph 2 - Announcement and Initial Thoughts Thread and it was created back in mid 2016 when there wasn't very much information available about the film, so there are a couple of inaccuracies and “yeah, duh” moments):
Disney have officially announced a sequel to Wreck-It Ralph. If you don't believe me, search it up.
Not a whole lot about it is known yet, though the setting will apparently change from the arcade to the internet. Presuming how John C. Reilly has confirmed he's returning and the release date is slated for May 2018, it doesn't seem to be pure speculation on Disney's part anymore.
Thoughts on this? I'm not sure what to think of the idea of a sequel since I would imagine the film more or less working more on its own merits, but I found it to be a decent release and there is definitely a lot they could do, especially with this new internet setting (though I also acknowledge it has the potential to go horribly wrong).

They should add more Sonic characters.

I was absolutely hyped upon hearing that announcement since I love Wreck It Ralph. My idea of what the plot might be is that people are playing a lot of MMOs and PC games, and the arcade characters are worried they aren't going to be played anymore.

Maybe only a couple more, I guess. I mean, in the original film, Sonic had a nicely lengthed line in the movie about one of the most important aspects of the film. I don't expect him to be that important again, but it would be nice to see from him again as a background character or shout out.
Me, personally, I'd love to see a cameo of Mappy, an arcade game I played a lot on a plug and play when I was younger.

I used to LOVE that movie, so I'm really hyped!

Mappy should definitely cameo! (I would make my cameo suggestion, but I've really tired everybody of it by now.)

Here's my plot idea:

When the arcade characters hear about consoles, PCs, the Internet, and mobile gaming, they decide to escape their arcade games and enter the other worlds through electrical lines. However, something absolutely goes wrong there.

I want to see a few Pokémon in the movie, maybe like in the Background or something? I would like that

The storyline of Wreck-it Ralph 2 is that Ralph and his friends leave the arcade and then explore the Internet. I imagined a scene in which Ralph and Felix encounter Sonic (the non-arcade one), Shadow, Silver, Cream, Blaze, and Rouge, and they are very unfamiliar with the “new characters”.

Gonna bring this account back from the dead a bit because I'm not bothered enough to log out and in again.
So, since I posted this thread over a year ago, more details have come up about the movie. The rumour that it takes place in the internet has been confirmed and the title is named after that new setting. (I do think there was a missed opportunity to call it "Ralph Wrecks The Internet“, but ”breaking the internet" is more standard in net lingo so I can understand.) A teaser trailer has also been released giving a quick set-up of the plot:
Litwak's Arcade has wi-fi installed and it gets registered as a new game of sorts. Ralph and Vanelope are curious to check it out, though the Wikipedia/IMDB bio says they're also looking for replacement parts for Sugar Rush, and they are warped straight into the internet. Hilarity Ensues™. Nothing is known about plots concerning other characters yet, but we do know that Mario's gonna be in it this time, so everything's all good with the world!
So what does everyone think? Like I was hinting at with that first post, when it comes to the subject of the internet, writers for big film companies like Disney often walk a thin line between clever, authentic writing and trying too hard/being out-of-touch. Based on the trailer alone though, I think they have as good a grasp on modern internet culture as they do with standard gamer culture, which is noticeably good IMO. I liked all of the jokes, but I think the punchline with the little girl playing on her iPad especially got me laughing. It's so unusually dark.

I’m not sure what to think of this. On one hand, it’s a sequel to one of the greatest animated films of the 21st century. On the other, it reminds me of the Emoji Movie, and that’s obviously not a good thing. Hopefully they won’t go overboard with memes and the like.

I just watched the trailer, and trailers don't usually make me laugh, but this one did at the end. That was such a dark joke I never expected Disney to do, but I found it really funny. At first I was skeptical about them trying to hard to appeal to teens, akin to The Emoji Movie, but I should have expected Pixar to make something good. I'm excited for this now.

I saw the first trailer yesterday. My thoughts are:
“Disney… Don't. Screw. This. Up.”

I can't wait for the part when Ralph and Vanellope go inside the Just Dance app and the story is delayed for 20 minutes

Holy E G G, how am I just now finding out about this? Also, is it just me, or does the little girl at the end look like Moana when she was a baby?

I guess it is pretty Emoji Movie-like looking back on it (I forgot about it for a while so it wasn't really on my mind when I first watched the trailer), but I have faith that even if this movie does end up being not so great, they'll try and avoid most of the issues that plagued that one.
