How can you put text with variables in it without making a sprite talk?

There are multiple ways to do it. The simplest is to just stick with the plain old watcher. But, you can also use cloning and / or stamps.

In my project Textbox, there are capitol letters and numbers, as well as spaces. (Using anything else could potentially crash the editor.)

But, I also have a project which is optimized for numbers.

That is the way I would do it.

Normally called monitors but in the data category all the variables have little check boxes (tick boxes) beside them. When ticked the variable appears on the stage.
You can also control it with

show variable [my variable v]

and

hide variable [my variable v]
