FIRST PART OF PLAY IN: INTO THE WILD (current)

Act 1
Scene 1

Use the Camp Set, Dim lighting. Spottedleaf is sitting in the middle, looking up. Other actors can be lying around ‘sleeping’


Spottedleaf: StarClan is watching us from Silverpelt.
Bluestar comes in from left. She walks over and sits next to Spottedleaf.
Bluestar: Hello Spottedleaf.
Spottedleaf: Hello. (dips head)
Bluestar: At Times like this, words from our ancient ancestors would be greatly appreciated. Has StarClan spoken to you?
Spottedleaf: Not for some moons.
Flash of light, sound of thunder. Sleepers mew quietly.
Spottedleaf: That was a sign from StarClan!
Bluestar: What did it mean? We might yet be saved.
Spottedleaf: (looks at Bluestar) Are you sure you really want to hear this?
Bluestar: (gazes at Spottedleaf sadly) If it is for the well being of my Clan, so be it.
Spottedleaf: (sigh) Fire alone can save our Clan.
Bluestar: (jump up, startled) Fire? But fire is feared by all! How can save us?
Spottedleaf: (look down) I do not know. But StarClan has shown this to me.
Bluestar: (stare at Spottedleaf hard) You have never been wrong before, Spottedleaf. Fire will indeed save our Clan.

Act 1
Scene 2

Use the Twoleg Garden set. Rusty is crouching when the scene starts. A Twoleg is behind the door. This is either a door or the right wing of the stage.


Rusty crouches and pounces at a mouse.
Rusty: Hah! I've got you now!
Twoleg comes out quietly with box of cereal with the words “Kitty Food” printed on it.
Twoleg: Rusty! Food! (Shakes box so it rattles. places some cereal in a CLEAN cat dish.)
Rusty: Meow! Mewmew! (rubs head against Twolegs leg.)
Twoleg: (smiles) good kitty! (goes back inside)
Rusty: (stares at the food with comtempt) Yuck. And I'm supposed to eat this stuff? (Goes to cereal and takes a bite) Eurgh. Thats enough for now.
Rusty pads to the edge of the garden, sits, and sighs.
Rusty: What could be out there?
Smudge walks over and sits.
Smudge: Where are you off to Rusty?
Rusty: (looks up at Smudge) Hello Smudge!
Smudge: (stands up and struts around pompously) Your're not going into the woods are you? You wouldn't get me in there! Its dangerous.
Rusty: (watches Smudge) I'm only going in for look around…
Smudge: (stops and looks at Rusty) Henry went into the woods once. He caught a robin there!
Rusty: (scornfully) Hah! Now he complains about birds ruining his sleep!
Smudge: Well, he also said that there are huge wild cats who eat live rabbits for breakfast and sharpen their claws on old bones!!
Rusty: I'm only going for a look around. Bye!
Smudge: Bye!
Rusty walks off to the left of stage. Smudge glances around.
Smudge: Don't say I didn't warn you!
