I honestly think this show can't be defended. Nobody saves the day anymore, the PPG are stereotypical preteen/teen girls, Ms. Bellum is gone, they have weird new powers that came out of left field, they have no character development except they like teenage stuff, Blossom is the smart neat freak, Bubbles is cute, and Buttercup is a tomboy. No depth. They don't use the old villains (Princess doesn't count at this point. she's too horrible) and Professor Utonium has a round face. Round. Why.

Also, the art style is different and the backround characters deserve to be in Clarence.

I have not seen all of the episodes yet, but so far I have mixed feelings towards the reboot. In positive terms, I actually like the show's characterization, though it could go further in depth, as well as the fact that there seems to be some continuity. Plus, the opening theme is awesome! In negative terms, I don't care that the show has taken a genre shift. It has less action, and feels more slice of life than anything. Then there are also the animation errors and meme jokes. The thing that bothers me the most is the episode Horn Sweet Horn. Well-intentioned or not, it is just not good for a gender issues episode. It's offensive even. Cartoon Network has become very liberal in recent years and I appreciate the fact that they are trying to bring light to certain issues, but this episode just didn't work out.

well, yes. There's some action, but I do agree that the show has flaws.

I've seen a video on youtube of trans folks talking about the episode, and yeah, it didn't really work. I think it would've worked if they met the horse character and they kept calling him a horse and he was like “well, actually I identify as a unicorn.” Maybe. It's just a weird analogy too.
