Bad word detector now complains on progress bars

I used to have these progress bars on my description:

█████████░ Dungeon Crawler
██████░░░░ Princess platform adventure

which basically means I'm 90 % done with the dungeon crawler project and 60% done with the princess platformer.

But the bad word detector now thinks there is a problem with the characters in the progress bar. Ok, to be honest, the percentages are probably a bit exaggerated and my progress on these projects is less than I state, but this shouldn't be the bad word detector's concern.

tl;dr: please remove ░ and █ from the bad word list.

My browser / operating system: Windows 7, Firefox 44.0, Flash 20.0 (release 0)

edit: fixed typos

The exact string that's triggering it is “░░░”, for whatever reason.

I can add any number of █ symbols, and I can add one or two ░ symbols, but when I add 3 ░ symbols in a row it trips the detector.

Copy and paste the following into your “About me” or a comment to see for yourself: –> ░░░ <–

This character can be used as an alternative: ─
It's not the same character by any means, but it is the same width. And it does make neat looking progress bars!

We added that in lately because there was a lot of spammy comments using those symbols (you might have seen some floating around, such as images of the trollface, the illuminati pyramid, the new dog chain letter, etc.). Adding the string to the filter helps to keep the spam down.

Hey, “illuminati” is supposed to be capitalized!

/offtopic

Is it possible to limit the filter to at least, like, ten of each? I can't think of any text arts that are made with only twenty of the characters and progress bars are nice.. though a new possible bar could be something like “øøøøøøøøøøøøoooo”.

Thanks for the explanation, i already suspected something like this. I think it was even such a comment somewhere that gave me the idea to “remix” these characters into a progress bar on my profile page.

I solved the problem now by replacing the progress bars by text saying xx %.

However, I would like to note that I had a hard time to identify the problem: I just wanted to recommend the work of a new follower on my profile, when the bad word detector suspected me of using a bad word. I could not even go back to the original version of my profile message.

This would be great! Can the bad word filter match by regular expressions?

Oho! I forgot about the stupid copypasta comments. Probably because i haven't seen them in a while (I guess that means it's working)

It might be a better idea to blacklist a larger part of the spammy stuff instead of just three characters? Like, the entire top half of the illuminati pyramid instead of just ░░░. Then again I have no idea how people behave and how your filter works, so that might not be such a good idea? Idk

I have been trying to post a link to a google drive document, (the link is for a video scratch tutorial I made) and it keeps saying it's a bad word. I also put it as a tinyurl, but it still blocks it. Why?

Google Drive docs can disclose your personal information to the person who owns the doc. url shorteners in general can be abused to share links to inappropriate content. (Per this, is the answer to your question about bit.ly).
