ITopic - What is spam?
Huh, I didn't know that. Cool! Fun fact: Spam was named after the Monty Python sketch where a couple orders food from a diner. Every dish the diner has has varying degrees of spam in it, such as “spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam baked beans spam spam and spam”. The repetition of the word “spam” inspired some early Internet trolls to repeatedly send the aforementioned word to people's email accounts, which is why spam is usually described as repeatedly posting a word over and over.

t his simply contributes nothing, which is not the purpose of the Scratch project comment section.
So pretty much every comment on Scratch is spam, and I've been spamming ever since I joined Scratch?

This is false because the first form of “spam” was sent long before Monty Python. There they were making for of the term and its similarity with Luncheon Meat or SPAM. Fun fact: Spam was named after the Monty Python sketch where a couple orders food from a diner. Every dish the diner has has varying degrees of spam in it, such as “spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam baked beans spam spam and spam”. Cool topic, but I would like to point out:
1. Necro-posting is a form of spam where a user posts on a dead topic to bump it up the thread. Usually these threads are inactive and simply get in the way. The Suggestions forum is exempt from most necro-posting.
2. Smiley spam is where a user posts multiple smilies in a post. It is still smiley spam if there is text before it. You only need a few smileys, not twenty.
3. Quoting spam is also known as a Quote Train. This is where a user does not shorten a giant list or train of quotes. This type of spam is very often seen on Scratch and is usually tolerated. It's mainly known for filling up pages with pointless quotes that at one point were relevant but no longer aren't. The best way to prevent this is either start a new quote line, or delete the quotes until the one you're quoting with an italic “snip” Something like this:

snip
How's your day?
Good, how about yours?
That should look like this:
Good, how about yours?snipHow's your day?

A better explanation of smiley spam:
Not_A_Spammer Wrote:That is okay, but the following is not:
Help! My project isn't working! I have all these blocks and the character still wont jump! Please help as soon as you can!

I'm not going to quote everything, but thank you, @MathlyCat and @-Abstract.
I'll update the main post — in fact, there are a few things I need to add.
Did you have to spam a topic about spam? The whole point of this topic is so you understand what spam is, and that you shouldn't do it. Please refrain from spamming in the future; it really isn't helpful. I don't mean to get so fustrated, but… -_-

I didn't see it when it happened, but @-Abstract caught a screenshot of that. XD lol, this is sitting below the original topic.
I honestly have no idea how someone found the original topic and bumped it up again — it must have been pages and pages back…?!

The classics never go out of style. This is mainly due to the fact that they are already out of style, and have been for a while now, and thus can't “go out” of style. That said, the reason they're classics and not obscurities from the past is because they're good despite being “out of style”.
