Scratch 3.0
I bet they won't add either of those. But they will add cloud lists. As much as we hate it, the ST tends to add features that make programming simpler to understand, but not complex features that only advanced programmers really useHopefully at least a report block and maybe first class lists. All I really need is the report block, then I can make first class lists myself, but it would be better to have them built in.I wonder if they will add any new features…
Considering it'd be JS-based and online, it would probably be a lot easier to roll out updates “at large”, so chances are we'll get new(er) awesome(r) things a lot faster than before.

You can only say “only advanced programmers use report blocks” if you compare a group of [generally] average Scratchers using Snap! and [generally] advanced Scratchers using Snap!, and of course you'd have to explain report blocks to both of them (that isn't hard though).
Right now only “advanced programmers” use Snap!, so you can't well say “only advanced programmers use report blocks”

Oh noes! This means I will have to redo Whiskers
Edit: On the bright side, I won't have to manually code bunches of complex shadows and bevels

Glad to see more progress being made (and displayed!) by the ST.
If I'm not mistaken, this should open up opportunities for the public to create their own block-based langauges, which would be super cool. We could overthrow Stencyl with a Scratch Blocks based program!

I hope they don't change the file format… It would break hacked blocks and things like Tosh…

Cloud lists won't make programming any “simpler to understand”. Adding a report block so new Scratchers can actually do more things than dance parties and animations would make programming simpler to understand.I bet they won't add either of those. Programming in general is complicated to new Scratchers. There's a difference between complex features and overwhelming new Scratchers.

I don't like the “cute”, scratchJr style blocks. I like the complex shapes, and shadows scratch 2.0 has.Are you referring to their color or the “horizontal” layout?
According to their readme they're working on both desktop-style and Jr-style blocks. Would be interesting to switch between them.
Their color scheme does seem to be getting even more “fluffy” and “pastelly” than the 1.4->2.0 transition was.
I also don't like the MASSIVE padding on the blocks. Although that LOL OMG WHITESPACE!!!!!!!! design is kinda pretty, and it's in these days, it makes the screen fit way fewer blocks on it and I think it will be annoying for people… actually wanting to program.
Taking a closer look at that colors website, it seems to be that sensing, pen, operators, data, and “more” are not available in horizontal mode. Which is kind of a bummer because it means the modes aren't compatible and it's more difficult to make “real” programs in horizontal mode. But I guess horizontal mode is more for animations and stories anyways. Still, though, it seems that they're going back on their design idea that “we're not going to add a \”simple\“ and \”advanced\“ mode.”

I'm wary of the fact that Scratch 3.0 is going to be based off of Scratch Jr. I'm bracing myself for some major design changes.
Also, Scratch Team, why are you affiliating with Google? Google is a greedy group of robber barons who produce, proprietary non-free software and try to monopolize the software industry (all their products heavily promote their other products!). Google has already taken over my school, and I don't want it to corrupt Scratch as well. Save us, Free Software Foundation!

This isn't the place for a free software debate. Let's keep the topic on the new Scratch announcements.

They probably just haven't bothered to design icons for all those blocks yet (in the github repo the commit messge mentions demo blocks). I thought the idea was that you could edit a project on desktop in vertical mode, and keep editing on your phone in horizontal mode with all of the same blocks available
edit: OH FOUND IT… that's super upsetting actually. I hope the horizontal editor will include a way to use those blocks

Sorry. I am currently writing a topic that focuses on this issue, in the Suggestions forum.
I hope the Scratch Team will open some sort of poll or forum, aside from Suggestions, to discuss the top features wanted in Scratch 3.0. I would like to push for several features.

Sorry. I am currently writing a topic that focuses on this issue, in the Suggestions forum.I'm pretty sure they did that for the transition into 2.0. It was at suggestions.scratch.mit.edu or something like that. It was great!

Ugh I hate horizontal blocks. Like seriously. I can barely work with the EV3 language
Blocks need to have labels to… work

No, I just meant, Google is going to be involved in Scratch 3. Also, I'm all for a mobile app, but I honestly will consider leaving if mobile devices becomes Scratch's first priority.Um, bump!

That's fully up to you, of course. Mobile apps are (obviously) going to become more of a priority than they are now, but I wouldn't expect the ST to abandon the desktop site. No, I just meant, Google is going to be involved in Scratch 3. This is cool
I think the color scheme is fine, but I agree that the padding is too much.
I will be sad if we still don't get custom reporters after all this time…
