Scratch 3.0

If y'all haven't seen, the ST just announced their partnership with Google to build Scratch Blocks, which according to the official announcement is going to be the framework for Scratch 3.0. There's also a bunch of other cool new things mentioned in the announcement as well.

More information about Scratch 3.0 can be found at https://scratch.mit.edu/preview-faq.

EDIT 2018-01-19: Check out the Scratch 3.0 preview!

Wow! I hope it's not Flash, and that Google doesn't get its grubby tracking analytics hands on it…

Am I the only person who likes 3.0 better than 2.0, or do the people who do just not talk about it?

It's not going to be Flash-based, thankfully.

Also, https://github.com/LLK/scratch-vm is a cool thing that people should take a look at. Might be good for Scratch 3 mods?

I really hope it doesn't use the terrible blockly UI. I like the Scratch style of blocks, and find them a lot “nicer” to work with than blockly's way of doing things.

I do, in fact, have my own site; it's here.
I'm also working on a thing called Fetch. Look at it here!

That's pretty worrysome…..I do not want Scratch to be a part of Google. BTW, it's -Radical-

Scratch isn't getting taken over by Google, it looks like the ST is just basing S3 off of blockly's JS code.

No, I just meant, Google is going to be involved in Scratch 3. Also, I'm all for a mobile app, but I honestly will consider leaving if mobile devices becomes Scratch's first priority.

I don't like the “cute”, scratchJr style blocks. I like the complex shapes, and shadows scratch 2.0 has.

I'd expect that the horizontal grammar will primarily be for the mobile apps, and the vertical grammar will be used in the web/desktop interface.

I mean, I don't like how the vertical has no shadows and simple shapes. It looks too much like scratchJr.

I hope they don't change the file format… It would break hacked blocks and things like Tosh…

Considering it'd be JS-based and online, it would probably be a lot easier to roll out updates “at large”, so chances are we'll get new(er) awesome(r) things a lot faster than before.

Check out the ‘vertical grammar.’

On another note, what is up with the Events colour?? It looks terrible compared to the rest… oh, and I think something went wrong with the padding on the ‘vertical grammar’

Hopefully at least a report block and maybe first class lists. All I really need is the report block, then I can make first class lists myself, but it would be better to have them built in.

Wouldn't you also have to have lambda?
But yes, I'm rooting for report and lambdas.
