Shoot this and Catch this.

My kids were asking me how to do things in Scratch so I thought I'd better get up to speed. I'm really impressed with Scratch. I would have LOVED this as a kid. Me and my two sons have been playing all weekend. I created a couple of quick games here:

Hello and welcome to Scratch and the community spinlight. I too wish this was around when I was a kid. At least I get to help guide primary age pupils and see what they can create

Your projects are absolutely out of this world. The graphics, typography and gameplay are inspirational

Thanks. You mentioned a Scratch club on your profile. Can you tell me about that? How is that structured? Is that supported/sponsored by MIT? I think Scratch clubs in schools is a great idea.

I start of by getting them to do the Step-by-Step Intro panel, and then the 12 Scratch Cards. Next I get them creating some art with a drawing program to build on the key moves card and creating spirographs to build on variables and the broadcast blocks. Some pupils have started creating their maze type game. However we have stopped at the moment to create a christmas card.

Year groups are ranged from year 3 (7-8) to year 6 (10-11) and most seem to be handling all the tasks. Although I have linked to my finished projects, they are just given instructions on what to do as a guide and/or in some cases for them to discuss with me what they need to do.

More girls seem to enjoy the Scratch Club than boys at the moment, but that is slowly starting to balance out as they are learning about Scratch from me in class too.

Not supported/sponsored by MIT, just decided to run on a lunchtime, every day for 30 minutes. Getting ready for programming being introduced into the curriculum in September 2014.
