I tried to use my own backdrop but it wont cover the whole screen and I cant figure out how to enlarge it.

what do you mean by your own back drop?
If you mean sprite, make a block saying

Then double click it

It is the size of the picture. I do not know the exact size required but if the picture is too small then that is the problem

The size of the stage is 480x360.

However, if your image is too small, just make it a sprite instead. Then you can still use it for a backdrop but you can enlarge it to fill the stage with the SIZE block.
