Vaporwave
Vaporwave is this weird genre of music that's basically 80's jazz/elevator music sampled into slightly disturbing critiques of capitalism.
It's heavily pretentious but at the same time mocks the heck out of pretention, and feels slightly unnerving. Its unnervingness does not derive out of screamers, instead it relies on endless mocking of capitalism and sounding as if aliens came to earth and tried to replicate 80's soft rock and miserably failed.
For a tiny example (i'm not even sure if this is techincally vaporware, i just found it)

And the most famous piece, 420.

(I'm unfollowing the discussion. By now I view vaporwave as mostly just a silly fad.)

I'd have to say, 420 gets pretty weird at a certain point. Vaporwave is this weird genre of music that's basically 80's jazz/elevator music sampled into slightly disturbing critiques of capitalism.

I really like listening to Floral Shoppe despite knowing that it really didn't take much effort to make. It's pretty good music for studying. Blank Banshee is really good even though I'm pretty sure it's only considered Vaporwave because of the A E S T H E T H I C and not because of the music

As a person born and raised on electronic music, I love this genre, particularly vaportrap. Can't wait for BB2.

On a serious note, I love Saint Pepsi and Luxury Elite's album LATE NIGHT DELIGHT. It just makes me feel happy and it's very soothing.

They aren't vaporwave, but I have a few music recommendations that people who like vaporwave might like.
Here they are:
Four Tet (I recommend Faberclive 59 for newbies)
Sigur Rós
Jónsi (Sigur Rós' Frontman)
Spiritualized
Beach House
Negativland
My Bloody Valentine
Portishead
Grouper
Sonic Youth's album Bad Moon Rising
Let me know if you want any other recommendations. I have plenty more. Thanks!
