Make CCs and Warrior Cat stuff at least a little less often in "Top Remixed" (6.5 SUPPORTERS)

Seriously, Top Remixed is pretty much only only CCs and Warrior Cat stuff now.

Be honest, how much other stuff is even often in there? One project? Two?

So make CCs and Warrior Cat stuff at least a little less often in Top Remixed. I'm not suggesting banning them, no, I'd get like no no-supports for that, and a bunch of people would be mad.

So yea… that's all…

I beg to differ, as I see at least one featured project, a couple icon contests, and maybe 2 games and a couple other random things.

Support, I think all non-programming projects should be marked as NFE. The front page is the face of Scratch, and potential new users may get mislead and think that Scratch is an art community.

Technically they ARE top remixed, and so hiding them would make the section dishonest.

They also take up several spots in the Top-Loved row too, so they're more widespread and popular than just for remixing.

I don't know what the actual suggestion is in this topic. You want there to be less coloring contests and warrior cats-related material, but how? I read Chibi-Matoran's suggestion that all art gets NFE'd because it doesn't emphasize programming, but that's a little irrational - first, it creates a content bias that displaces the “Scratch is for everyone” kind of philosophy, and second, the ST does art from time to time, so yeah, they'd probably not approve of it.

[opinion]
On the other hand, it does get very annoying that the front page is always flooded with WC content. CCs, RPs, adoptions… what does any of this have to do with programming? Cat artists, please give programming a chance or move your business somewhere else. Scratch is not the place to dump loads of your OCs and redundant coloring contests. We would also not mind it if you would stop complaining about recolors, unwanted remixes, or the lack of drawing tools in the editor. Please bear in mind Scratch is not primarily an art-making or art-sharing site, so it is much appreciated that you do not obsessively treat it like one. Thanks.
[/opinion]

As a long time Scratcher, I have found new meaning to the name “Scratch”: for me, it means to “scratch that itch”, to come back again and again to realize new ideas in this toy language, even when I'm capable of creating my projects in real programming languages years later. It's a friend that helped me to pursue programming and get me to enjoy its fruit. I'm certain many others who have walked this path as well have grown fond of its importance in their life.

Well, I haven't made up my mind whether it's appropriate to take action against them. CCs and WC-related content have been featured before, so it shows the ST doesn't mind there being loads of art for it. As long as users are fostering a creative learning environment, even in one where you just doodle cats for a living, the ST is okay with that.

Exactly. Although scratch was mainly made for codeing, the ST is totally fine with you showing off your artistic side, as long as it's appropriate to share publicly with many age groups.

This. The front page is made to show what the community has been loving/remixing lately, whether you like said content or not. Also marking “non-programming” projects as NFE honestly makes no sense to me. Why would they not be for everyone? And how would that be determined by the program? The user could simply add an effect script, and it would qualify as a programming project indeed. Perhaps this could be prevented, but implementing a minimal script quota doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

No support.

No support for this. Scratch is for everyone, so it isn't fair that only programming projects get all the attention.

Would video games be considered “non-programming projects”? What about interactive animations? What about animations that aren't stop-motion frame by frame (instead multiple sprites interacting with each other)?

As much as I initially supported your idea, it's a bit too vague.

Well I think all programming projects should be marked NFE. The front page is the face of Scratch, and the front page also says “imagine, program, share” (and if I make a sweet art project, I'm imagining and sharing all right.) People might get misled and think that Scratch is a strictly programming community, when really it's about imagining and sharing too.

Of course I'm kidding.

There's more to Scratch than the areas people tend to hang out in. You and I might tend to hang out in the scripting and technical side of Scratch. There's hundreds of thousands of art projects too, but just because I ignore them doesn't mean that everyone should ignore them.

No support for hopefully obvious reasons.
