Whiskers: Scratch 2.0 for Incompatible Devices

I see I have suddenly become a third wheel since you decided to set it up without me.

Tell me, why do you even act like you care if you're just going to completely ignore the person whose IDEA it was and was going to set it UP and just be like “Oh never mind”.

I regret making not being vague about what I meant

NoMod, I might try to set up an online version of Whiskers. It would be very slow, but could you give me a subdomain like online.whiskers.gwiddle.co.uk?
Squeak.js?
I think so. Can you try it on online.whiskers.gwiddle.co.uk?
It works! It's extremely slow, but it works!
^^

I got some scary error at the beginning and the elements didn't show up until I moused over them, but then it worked
Yeah, it said that it couldn't find some things, but after I closed those out it worked (mostly) fine.
The problem is that it is so slow, it's hard to do anything in it.

I think you're being a little harsh.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't have said all that. But seriously, don't just do that without me when it was my idea.

Well….

So, I just tested Whiskers with SqueakJS. And it seems to work! It is rather laggy, but It is kinda cool! fyi https://bertfreudenberg.github.io/SqueakJS/run/

just upload the .image file and your good to go! I am planning on testing locally to see if I can find a way to speed it up. Once it supports keyboards, I could make an app. o.O

So, yeah….

(But putting it in the whiskers site was a good idea)

1. It's made in the same programming language and environment as 1.4, and for most of the blocks it still uses code from 1.4. But yeah, technically it's 2.0
2. Not really. They're both pretty different, and use different software.

Whiskers: Scratch 2.0 for Incompatible Devices

v24.1
Speed improvements ported from NuScratch to old Whiskers. Recursive custom block fixes. Renaming custom blocks works correctly now. Fixed ask prompter in languages with different font sizes. Nearly fixed drawing on reporter bubbles. New drawing methods; not finished and certainly not perfect (report any inconsistencies, please). Added new clean up code. Made 0/0 = NaN. Added question marks. Fixed set rotation style block. Other minor fixes.

BTW: If any of you guys want to test out a custom reporter (that doesn't work in 2.0), just shift click the tips menu, click fibbonaci test, and click on the sprite again. Let me know how it goes!

I'm going to try to implement the more complicated Dev opening program. Please do not make any changes to avoid merge conflicts.

You probably shouldn't tell the creator of a project “don't change things so it's easier for me!”

. @-Radical-, how about making a new changeset and fileing it out for me to import? Then I can see what the changes are better.

I have an idea for a new feature, if you launch Whiskers a very special way with the command line, then a new menu appears contained with the Squeak controls instead of *-clicking the edit menu.

No, I don't think too many people will shift-click the edit menu, and different OS's have different ways to pass a command line argument to squeak. It will take too long to add a way to get dev mode in each OS. I think that this will remain the way it is for now.

I already know it for Windows and Mac, and none of our devs use Linux. Also, a lot of people will be shift-clicking Edit, since that gives you a bunch of goodies in the main Scratch.

I think you should at least *try* my idea before you make a final descision.

Sincerely, probably me. Maybe myself. Or sometimes I.

Whiskers is just a black screen. Same problem with BYOB3 and Explore and Panther and pretty much every other Scratch 1.4 mod. While Scratch 1.4 works fine.
I've had the same problem with BYOB in Ubuntu, Trisquel, Debian, and Parabola…

Probably your computer's fault then, not NoMod's.
