you can accomplish this graphical hack pretty easy by using your browser's development pane.

Yep, it's tricky - definitely takes time to get used to. Sorry for the change up! We did it b/c we felt it made better use of the limited space, and matched the project page more closely. (It has to transition between them, and having the stage on the right in the editor would make that kinda weird / difficult.

Perhaps this should be optional? I'm all for choosing when it comes to Scratch.
