Is the Wii U a failure? (continuation of "The gaming industry after the Wii U")

After a disappointing Wii U and a gimmicky 3DS, Nintendo has revealed their new console, the Switch.

It has the potential to be a best selling hit, but what do you think?

NOTE: All posts before the third (and including third) page are about the topic “Will the Wii U survive?” The general consensus was yes.

NOTE AGAIN: Due to continuing discussion (quite possibly started by ignorant people not reading the title or the main post, but I will not pick names) the discussion has flipped back to “Will the Wii U survive?”. The title has been changed accordingly. I have kept my opinions on the Wii U being not as much of a failure as some think. Feel free to continue discussion on the previous topic, especially with the fact this new console has a codename; The NX. I don't really moderate this post to keep it on topic either, if I did I miserably failed.

I don't think it's time to count it out just yet but it wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't go too well. I doubt it would be the end of Nintendo though - their dominance of the handheld market will keep them aloft for quite some time yet I expect.

I assume you're correct.
But, still, I wouldn't be suprised if nintendo stops making handhelds by 2020.

Right now, it's failing, but I imagine that once Nintendo starts dishing out their first-party titles, things will start to pick up.

And in all honesty, the PS4 is going to sell much better, but that doesn't mean Wii U doesn't have a chance in the market.

The Wii U hasn't been doing well so far, but there's no signs of Nintendo dying any time soon. The 3DS is still a massive sucess, and I'm sure that the heavy hitters of 2014 will bring the Wii U back to the top: I've seen many people getting a Wii U just for Super Smash Bros.

I might get one solely for Mario Kart 8, and maybe also Super Mario 3D World, but then again, I do want a PS4 also, maybe a little more.

But then again, PC master race…

Calm down.

The Xbox One already sucks as it is and is going to be quite miserable, I predict. PS4, on the other hand, is doing very well. One million in a day is extremely impressive; however, it doesn't imply long-term success, but for all we know it could. If it's already doing better than Wii U in just a few days, that has to mean something.

I think a significant problem is the naming scheme. Nintendo have done a terrible job in making clear what the Wii U is. We know what it is but it seems those who bought the Wii are neither clear that it's not an add-on, nor interested in a new console.

Currently my money is on the PS4 dominating this generation but it's not a huge bet. Sony have learnt a great deal from their blunders last time ‘round and Microsoft aren’t winning any friends with their US-centric offering. That said, a lot of people haven't paid attention to MS' strategy with their new console and so haven't been put off by their stumbling…

I don't think Nintendo is quite losing money yet. Nintendo's problem has been time: they have been too slow in first-party games. Another effect are tablets which many kids are now engrossed in. Anyways, in Spring I think a couple first-party titles are coming (Mario Kart 8), so that should be good. It's definitely an underrated system, and I hope Nintendo keeps it's ground and gets back up like in Gamecube days.

I hope Nintendo can get back up on their feet. They could use some better commercials too, as the Wii U ones are pretty corny. Make it seem cool, like the “Wii would like to play” ones for the Wii that grab your attention.

We'll have to see.
I personally it might be a bit too late when the ps4 comes out.

Plus, now I think mario is just repetitive and boring.

I think that all three new consoles (U, One, PS4) are huge failures.

I was watching RightThisMinute a few days ago (if you don't know what it is, basically they just show crazy videos they found online) and one segment had multiple videos of people who had just bought PS4's, and were opening them in the parking lot and destroying them in front of all the people waiting in line to buy one.

Not sure how the former is connected to the latter…

Considering the recent price drop, the upcoming new installments in the SSB and Mario Kart series, and a few stand-out third party titles…
MY CALCULATIONS SAY THAT NINTENDO WILL LIVE.

Technically they both are repetitive and boring.

Also there's no reason that you can't enjoy both…? I play Battlefield and Mario games and enjoy them both equally.
