if you want to create one single clone and then wait for it to go away, you can achieve the exact same thing with a broadcast.
Using Firefox 46.0.1, Flash plugin version 21.0.0.242, and Windows 7 Professional.

Why would you want to use a single clone to do stuff while the original sprite waits? It would be the same as just doing it with the original one.

Try this script:
Clone startup
Set [Clone] to (1)
*Script
Set [Clone] to (0)
Delete this clone
Clone startup
Set [Clone] to (1)
*Script
Set [Clone] to (0)
